Sharing this a bit late, but please do read this brilliant piece by Ruskin Bond, whom I had the honour to meet and photograph last week.
He is as beautiful a person as his writing. :')

Let's see how many in the Bombay film fraternity stand up for one of their own (Imran Khan) now. This should be fun.

And then arrived the day when Indians were jailed for waving the national flag…

#Bengaluru police detained dozens of people protesting against #SIR & #GyaneshKumar in a state with a ruling Congress govt, whose leaders claim to be against SIR too. Their reason? A technicality. That protests are only allowed in Freedom Park, not even 10 metres outside it.

Modi has accepted defeat even before our protest has begun.
The mass crackdown on protesters and the shutdown of Delhi are not signs of strength, but of a leader terrified of his own people.

Irrespective of what happens today, the regime's preemptive lockdown of the national capital and security crackdown across the country is already a loss for Modi. His political authority & democratic legitimacy are gone - and he has amplified global attention to the oppn's cause.

During the previous CJP protest in July, influencers used The Park hotel’s Wi-Fi to upload their videos. This time, police are stationed at the hotel, influencers are being prevented from leaving, and one influencer’s room internet has reportedly been cut off.
Our reporters @AshwineSingh and @SavyasachiAstha were detained after this update. Three Newslaundry reporters have now been detained, and two official phones seized by Delhi Police.

Picking up protestors before a rally is a classic dictatorial playbook.
Happened in Nazi Germany, Apartheid South Africa, Soviet Russia, Colonia India, among many others.
The Indian govt following in the footsteps of some of the worst regimes imaginable.

People say that Indian institutions are not stable and consistent. I totally disagree.
Look at Delhi Police. They have been consistently beating up the Indian public since 1861.

A Muslim man was simply crossing the road when Delhi Police detained him and took his phone. When I objected to this, they tried to detain me too.
I’m incredibly grateful to the journalist friends on the ground who stepped in and came to my rescue.
HOW IS THIS BEHAVIOUR JUSTIFIED? BATAIYE MUJHE.

Landed in Delhi this afternoon - incredible to see the streets of the capital of the world’s largest democracy flooded with security forces and blocked by endless barricades.

Real cat an mouse game happening among protestors trying to reach central Delhi. I spoke to some students from Delhi college who were sitting peacefully on the sidewalk in Janpath and waiting for the protest to begin. 15 minutes later they were detained and driven 45 mins away.

If Gyanesh Kumar doesn’t resign, cockroaches from across India will march to Delhi & protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10.
If Delhi Police tries to stop us, wherever they stop us will become our Jantar Mantar..
Ours will be a peaceful andolan. We will walk on the path shown by Mahatma Gandhi. It is up to the Govt & the Delhi Police whether they respect our right to peaceful protest or repeat the brutality we witnessed on July 20.
This is a fight to save our democracy. Every citizen who wants free & fair elections must join.
