Most Asian founders have a huge chip on their shoulders because of our Asian parents which can be stronger motivations than money & fame. These are iconic anecdotes from my life that keep me motivated daily as a founder. 2008: Me: "Mum & Dad, am ditching the Princeton offer to study at a local uni. I'm going to use the first semester college fees to buy $APPLE shares because this iphone is going to change consumer tech behavior forever" Them: "Dont be stupid, it is not going to work. Get a good job, save up and buy real estate" I bought at 2008 peak but still managed to do pretty well. 2016: Me: "Mum & Dad, am quitting my job to build a fintech company with my buddy & his dad in Thailand and Italy" Them: " Don't be stupid, it is not going to work. Stay on your job, use your salary to buy real estate" We built a $150mil company within 5 years & pioneered the virtual card space for the industry. 2020: Me: "Mum & Dad, unlimited money printing is coming . You need to buy bitcoin and more gold" Them: "Don't be stupid, use your savings & low interest rate to buy more real estate and just be a landlord" We know what happened here. 2025: Me: "Mum & Dad, I'm building this new company to bring 2billion Asian e-commerce users to crypto with free crypto cashback & yield products" Them: "Don't be stupid, nobody wants crypto and why go through all these pain again?" Cant wait to fucking prove them wrong again
