This is really sad. I was lucky to have known him. May he rest in peace. #CoachGags.
Frank “Gags” Gagliano, the Hall of Fame coach who guided more than a dozen Olympians across six decades, has died. He was 89. Gagliano coached at nearly every level of the sport. As an assistant at Manhattan College, he helped the Jaspers win the 1973 NCAA indoor team title. He spent 18 years leading Georgetown, where his teams won 23 Big East championships and produced 140 All-Americans, and he was twice named national coach of the year. At an age when most coaches retire, he became one of the country’s top professional coaches. He led the Reebok Enclave, the Nike Farm Team, Oregon Track Club Elite and, from 2010, the New Jersey-New York Track Club. His Olympians included John Trautmann, Steve Holman, Nicole Teter, Jonathon Riley, Nick Symmonds, Christian Smith, Julie Culley and Donn Cabral. At the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials, Symmonds and Smith were part of the famous “Oregon Sweep” of the men’s 800m at Hayward Field. A Bronx native, Gagliano was a quarterback at the University of Richmond, not a runner. He began coaching track in 1960 at Roselle Catholic High School in New Jersey, which had hired him with the promise of starting a football team that never came. In 1965, Roselle Catholic became the first high school to win both the DMR and 2-mile relay at the Penn Relays. “I didn’t know anything about track,” he said in a 2014 interview. “But I accepted the offer because I really wanted to coach.” Gags became one of the most influential coaches in American distance running. His philosophy was simple: strength plus speed. And when you hear “Hit it!” on the final turn, change gears. Gagliano was inducted into the USTFCCCA Hall of Fame in 2003. This July, USA Track and Field named the men’s 800m at its national championships in his honor.

The things we love to see: A two-lane, all-weather running track on the roof of a Toronto hotel. I am guessing that it is maybe 120 metres per lap. 😎🇨🇦

Really good work here.
Doug Ford’s war on bike lanes isn’t about traffic—it’s part of a global right-wing backlash to vilify urban residents and defend fossil fuel interests. @DesmondCole reports from the frontlines of the showdown in Toronto.

Ahem. For those who may be unaware, Montreal is a cold *winter* city. Colder and snowier than Toronto. And it now ranks 2nd among the world’s best cycling cities. So don't even. momentummag.com/montreal-ran…

End of an era. After a decade calling this place home it’s time for a little more space. I’ve absolutely loved living, training and growing here. If you or anyone you know is looking for a spacious 1 bedroom surrounded by greenery you won’t regret this one, I know I sure haven’t.

Earlier this year, we released research showing that Peel is receiving significantly less provincial funding for community services than comparable communities across Ontario. Now York Region has done a similar analysis — and found a similar pattern. The message is becoming harder to ignore: Ontario’s growing outer suburbs aren’t getting the level of provincial investment their communities need. #ONpoli
$450M a year. That’s the estimated gap in provincial funding for community services in York Region. The impact? Longer waits, childcare shortages, housing challenges and more pressure on shelters and hospitals. Read more from the CBC: cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/y… #ONpoli

Canadian public transit agencies should work more with the uitp (the international public transport association) and less with apta (the American public transport association), we just have so much to learn from the world and a lot of our mistakes are common with the US.

I am once again at Biidaasige. $1.5 billion in investment that’s going to unlock something like $10 billion in development. An engineering project that allowed landscape architects to lead. We are very fortunate.

Thank you @ChandraPasma for attempting to have the Ford Gov't live up to their bluster of being the "Most Accountable and transparent Gov't ever in Ontario"! NOT! #onpoli
How much are Ontario taxpayers paying for the Ford government's education ads? Earlier this week, Treasury Board President Kinga Surma said to ask Education Minister Paul Calandra. Today, Calandra said to ask Surma. So far, no one has provided an answer on how much the ads are costing:

Removing bike lanes is not going to help congestion. This government is spending millions of dollars making roads less safe and removing infrastructure, rather than building for the future. Meanwhile, getting by gets harder everyday for regular Ontarians. Let’s spend on what people actually want, like housing and public healthcare.

Doctors for Safe Cycling - you know, the people who treat the consequences of unsafe streets in the ER - gathered in Toronto today to protest provincial interference in our street infrastructure. Spending $43 million to make our streets less safe will put even more pressure on our ERs. They know it. cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/o…

I also tried the Shimano wheel change challenge (photo, not of me, for illustrative purposes). Just under 50 seconds - not too bad, but the supervising mechanic said he once did it in 20 seconds. I think I'll stick to writing about cycling. 😉 #Montréal2026 #LKanada

Despite Doug Ford saying numerous times that - "I have to be prudent with the taxpayers money" - Ont's finances are spiraling out of control. This is not OPINION it's what the Gov'ts own Auditors are saying! Seriously - we are headed to an economic cliff! #onpoli
