If you can’t play hard, then you can’t play at all. It’s that simple.

Some coaches don’t realize that they’re the problem. A player loses their love for the game, starts thinking about quitting. Then a new coach, a new culture & the spark returns. They didn’t change, but their environment did. Coaches, you can be the reason they quit or love again.

HS Coaches will swear they want multi-sport athletes… Then schedule “optional” workouts, that “aren’t mandatory” during every other single sport’s season. Nothing says support like making a 16-year-old choose which adult to disappoint.

I’ve noticed parents who actually had successful sports careers are usually the quietest at games. They let their kids play and coaches coach. The loudest parents are often trying to live the career they never had through their kids. Let the kids have THEIR journey.

Parents are the problem. Great role models. 🤦🏼‍♂️
A youth football game for 8- and 9-year-olds was canceled after several dads got into a massive fight on the field. teapawt.net/pahrduve/status/209419…

One of the hardest parts of being a teacher and coach is that no matter what, you’ll always be the villain in someone’s story.

Nothing more dangerous than a coach who just attended a coaching clinic. Suddenly every practice has three new drills he can’t even explain correctly.

Guys from the 1950s thru the 1980s used courts like this to get better. Play all day against the best a city could offer. Now, on a nice August afternoon and with a superior court, nobody plays.

Your mindset and self-talk is so critical 💯
3 types of self‑talk: Trash Talk: “I can’t. I always mess up.” Truth Talk: “I’ve done this before. I know how.” Trigger Talk: Short, punchy cues: “Next ball.” “Strong hands.” “See it.” #TheConfidentAthlete
