ALT Average annual snowfall for New England. 100-125 inches of snowfall in western Maine and far northern Maine. 75-100 inches in eastern, Bangor regions, and interior/Hancock Downeast regions. Isolated locations of 50-75 inches along far east Downeast Maine.

ALT Graphic explaining how to measure ice, with image of a tree branch covered in ice. NWS measures ice radially, around the sides of an object, down to increments of 0.01". It can only take a quarter inch of ice accumulation on tree branches and power lines to negatively impact infrastructure. Steps: 1) locate an ice covered object that is out in the open. 2) position yourself to see both the thickest and thinnest ice portions around the entire objects. 3) using a ruler, measure the thickest part of the ice, from the edge of the object to the edge of the ice. 4) measure the thinnest part of the ice using the same method. 5) average the two measurements (add together divide by 2) to calculate total ice accumulation.
