Day 2 of our 3-day peaceful gathering in Ottawa. Another day of families standing together, refusing to let their voices go unheard. Behind every immigration file is a human being. Parents who fled repression, built lives in Canada, and contributed to their communities are now facing uncertainty—not only for themselves, but for their children, who had no part in their parents’ compulsory service. These families are not asking Canada to weaken national security or turn a blind eye to the IRGC. They are asking for a fair process that distinguishes forced conscription from voluntary membership and assesses people based on their individual circumstances. Silence and uncertainty are not answers. We continue to call on IRCC and CBSA senior decision-makers to meet with affected families, clarify the screening criteria, and address the consequences of these cases. One day remains. Families of former Iranian conscripts are outside IRCC and CBSA offices, speaking for thousands across Canada who disclosed their conscription honestly and transparently—yet face inadmissibility findings that affect their entire families including minor children. Evidence from affected families shows that conscription alone is being treated as IRGC membership, despite previous assurances from the government. Our request is simple: meet with IRCC senior decision-makers, explain how these cases are assessed, and listen to affected families. Canada must have clear guidelines that distinguishes forced conscripts from voluntary IRGC members. 📢 September 22 Press Conference | The Talent Canada Risks Losing At our September 22 press conference on Parliament Hill, Dr. Golbarg Talebian—a physician, mother, and affected family member—shared her story and highlighted a broader reality: Canada risks losing the very talent it actively selected and welcomed. Among the families affected are physicians, engineers, researchers, professors, PhDs, master’s graduates, entrepreneurs, and highly skilled professionals who came to Canada to work, contribute, raise their children, and build their futures. Dr. Talebian herself was selected through Ontario’s Express Entry stream and has spent years contributing to healthcare in Canada. Yet her family’s future is now uncertain because of her husband’s compulsory conscription. These families are not asking Canada to compromise national security. Today, UCAN met with members of the CIMM, NDDE, and SECU committees to discuss the urgent challenges facing former Iranian conscripts and their families. We thank MPs Brad Redekopp, Costas Menegakis, Frank Caputo, and James Bezan for meeting with us. We also appreciate the participation of staff members from the offices of MP Garnett Genuis and Vincent Ho. We discussed the grave consequences of current immigration decisions for affected families, particularly the emotional and psychological toll on their children, and the urgent humanitarian need for action. The MPs also reaffirmed that the objective of listing the IRGC as a terrorist organization was to target genuine security threats—not innocent people forced into compulsory service. This distinction must be reflected in how Canada’s immigration policies are applied. National security and fairness must go hand in hand. Innocent families must not become collateral damage in Canada’s fight against terrorism. We called for urgent action to prevent further harm and for meaningful solutions that distinguish forced conscription from voluntary membership or support for the regime. Hope today’s discussion will lead to concrete parliamentary action and lasting solutions for affected families.
