Brilliant investigation by @thetimes Insight team into a relatively recent incident in Syria where soldiers took split second decisions in the heat of combat. One SAS soldier's home was raided at night time by the Royal Military Police who asked them to remove the baby from the cot incase he had hidden anything there. One SAS soldier "forfeited his lifelong savings to pay for legal support after the Ministry of Defence capped its support to legal aid and a handout of no more than £500". Unsurprisingly, all the SAS soldiers investigated over two deaths in Syria have now left the military. Despite no charges, they remain on a police database which has stopped them living abroad. thetimes.com/article/7aa0380…

In PMQs Burnham praised Badenoch's conference speech criticism of some Reform politicians definition of Englishness. We played that speech clip to half our sample. Among those who saw it Badenoch's net favourability jumps 13 to +21 Farage's drops 11 to -35 Burnham's flat at +14

Sometimes suggested Conservative politicians held back from criticising Reform because of fear of alienating voters they lost to them at 2024 election. Yet what is interesting is the biggest jump in her favourability seeing the Englishness criticism clip is Reform 2024 voters

It’s worrying how Calvin Robinson has gone absolutely mad. I remember when he was vaguely normal but rightwing. Didn’t much like him. Thought he was grifting as “the black anti-woke go to guy™️” in a way I don’t like (and have said no to doing). But he’s gone absolutely crazy.
Is there going to be a splinter party attacking Restore for letting women stand for office?!

Worth a read 👇 Zia Yusuf on Suella Braverman’s comments about being English Yusuf: “Well, she's entitled to her view. I'm a Chelsea fan (I might lose some voters for that statement) and in my view Ashley Cole is the best English fullback in history, and I won't take any other position. So in my view, Ashley Cole is English. The argument that he's not English doesn't hold water with me. But I will also say, I speak to a lot of people in this country who are concerned legitimately, with the fact that, if you are white English in many of the league tables that matter, for example, educational attainment, access to our best elite universities, pay inside the civil service, you're often right at the very bottom of those league tables and nobody really seems to care about that. and so I think this is a very nuanced issue. And people can have different views.” SR: A lot of people would have concerns about immigration. But that is a different thing from effectively judging someone on the colour of their skin. If you're getting into an argument about whether Ashley Cole or Bukayo Saka or Jude Bellingham are English, have you basically lost the argument? Yusuf: I can only talk about my views on these matters. Right. And I do think it is important that we listen to people who are worried about some of the demographics in this country. I think that there are some legitimate arguments that they can make about that. But I will also say, every single person that you just mentioned there, whether it's Saka, Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Nasser Hussain, who I grew up watching when I went to the cricket, the idea that those people aren't English, is an alien concept to me. I would respectfully disagree with people, who make the opposite argument. SR: Do you identify as English yourself? Yusuf: Well, I was born in Scotland and I grew up in England. So, you know, I'm not sure where I would fall in that regard, I don't think I'd have much of a claim to stake even if I tried. Because, as I said, I was born in Scotland.

Even lower than the 1.4% Galloway got in the London mayoral election 2016 bbc.co.uk/news/election/2016…
Obviously not helped by the fact he is in self imposed exile. But Holborn was George Galloway’s worst ever result in a Westminster election.

The strongest section of Kemi Badenoch's speech so far: "To those who say “unite the right”... we are not uniting with THAT. I don’t want to live in a country run by people who threaten journalists, call veterans traitors and debate whether my mixed-race children are English. "I don’t want to explain to my son, when we’re watching our brilliant England team play football, that some people don’t think our black players are English. "I remember back in the day when Ian Wright and John Barnes were playing - nobody was questioning whether they were English. We certainly didn’t have sitting MPs questioning whether they were English. "We must not let these people take us backwards. That is not the country we are. I don’t know whether you’ve noticed, but I am black. I am British. I’m proud of my country, I’m proud of our history."

Last month I had the honour to lay a wreath at the Chattri Memorial on the Patcham Downs to commemorate #Indian soldiers who had succumbed to their injuries whilst recovering in the makeshift Brighton hospitals. The theme for South Asian Heritage Month 2026 @SAHM_UK is 'unity in diversity'. This unity and diversity was reflected in the casualties from the Indian subcontinent and in those @UKPHA who continue to honour their memory today on Chattri Memorial Day in Brighton. It was great to be joined by friends from the @NAM_London and @I_W_M. Well done to Davinder Dhillon and the volunteers at the Chattri Memorial Group. #commemoration #southasianheritagemonth #SAHM26 #indianarmy – at Cosgrove, England

It was @DamianSurvation who pointed out how much the close polling depended on a very significant weighting up of Reform and weighting down of Labour, that might be adjusting for something on a mistaken premise xitter.cf/DamianSurvation/status…
A shared methodological puzzle across all Makerfield polls: unweighted Labour 2024 recall clusters nearer to the Burnham Mayoral figure (66%, Wigan), not the GE figure (45% for Josh). Weighting corrects to GE PV. But if the recalled vote isn't the GE vote, the correction misfires - suppressing Labour VI and inflating Reform. There's fighting talk from the PM today but what's the plan in the event of a complete Burnham blow-out?
