Did you know calicos/torties have a genetic predisposition for obesity? Sometimes they just can't lose the weight no matter what. Don't internalize that as a personal failure to your kitty if they get fat and can't lose weight.
Sometimes their genetics win and as long as we, as their caretakers, can keep them healthy and from continuously gaining weight, that's still good too. My cats are chubby fluffs, but their weight is stalled at just a few lbs over. Not ideal, of course, but it is what it is.
A cool thing that science is learning from Calico obesity is that, through studying their little bodies and genetics, it's giving scientists more ideas on how to work with human obesity too. Sources!
