Like Bittu Tabahi, 19-year-old Kartik Sahani decided to take action and create change himself. The Tamsa River in Mau, Uttar Pradesh, had become filled with waste. Kartik’s family’s farmland depends on this very river for irrigation. So he made a decision: He would clean the river himself. Every day, he spent 3–4 hours in the river cleaning it. In just 22 days, he removed more than 1,000 kg of waste. Now, after the river, his next target is a pond in his neighbourhood. Because creating change doesn’t always require a big team.
