What if an embryo made immune cells before it finished building the tissue they usually come from?
In our new preprint, we show that annual killifish embryos specify neutrophils before germ layers are fully resolved.

Huge thanks to my PI, @Ohnolog!
🧵
14/ Our takeaway:
Annual killifish redeploy a conserved neutrophil program far earlier in development than other vertebrates.
The cell type is conserved, but the developmental route has changed.
15/ Huge thanks to my co-authors (Nicholas Lammers, Sebastian Hriscu, Clare Booth, and @coletrapnell) Thank you @Ohnolog for taking me on as his first grad student — I’m so excited to share this work!

I am excited to share our work in which we conducted a CRISPRi-based screen to assess 102 Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) risk genes in microglial uptake of synaptic material! (1/7)

Excited to see our spotlight piece out in Development! We highlight how scRNAseq and CRISPR gene editing are revealing incredible cell type evolution stories across the tree of life!
A new dawn for the study of cell type evolution
In this Spotlight, Matthew Pomaville, @sydsat & @Ohnolog @uwgenome @UW dive into concepts and provide examples of how single-cell transcriptomics unlocks the study of cell type evolution in diverse organisms

It's #MicroscopyMonday, so let's take a look into the 🔬!
