Pleased to announce that I have matched at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital in Seattle! Very excited, I hear the place is a little unusual.
MA handing me samples: Do you want a new drug?
Me: One that won’t make me sick?
MA: What?
Me: (Sigh) Never mind.
Regardless of the politics involved, am I the only person who finds going to a concert of the person I came there to see, at the expected time, and without a series of mediocre opening acts kind of appealing?

This is not a photograph, and it's not an oil painting. It might be the most unbelievable watercolor ever made...
It's called Sommarnöje, which means something like Summer Delight, and Anders Zorn painted it in 1886. Look at the water, the gentle ripples, the reflections, the wet sheen of it, and then look at the two people, the fine detail of the wooden rowboat, the woman's white dress, the light on her face.
It has the near-photographic realism of an oil painting, and it was done in watercolor, a medium so unforgiving that a single wrong stroke ruins the entire piece.
Zorn painted this in the first summer of his marriage: the woman in white waiting on the pier is his new wife, Emma, whom he had married only months before. They had just come back from their honeymoon and were staying with her family at Dalarö near Stockholm, still looking for the home where they would spend their life. The man rowing toward her is their friend Carl Gustav Dahlström. It is a real moment from the happiest season of a young couple's life, caught and held forever.
In 2010 this single sheet of watercolor sold for twenty-six million Swedish kronor, over three million dollars, the highest price ever paid for a Swedish painting.
In his own lifetime, Zorn was celebrated above all for two things: his handling of light, and his ability to paint water. Sommarnöje is where you see exactly why...
My iPhone: Oh, right, that software update I said I’d do overnight. Totally spaced on that and it didn’t work, I guess! Want to do it now that it’s a much more inconvenient time?

Happy 250th birthday, USA! 🇺🇸
Here in Colorado, we’re like the kid with a birthday on Christmas Day: yes, it’s America’s big year — but it’s our birthday year too! Don’t forget us!
Colorado turns 150 this year. We’re called the Centennial State because we became a state in 1876, exactly 100 years after the birth of the United States, so our birthdays have always been linked. Fortunately we have our own day to celebrate our 150th—August 1st—which is “Colorado Day.” Happy 250th to the United States, and happy 150th to Colorado! 🎂🏔️

I know there’s no way to really track this, but I would swear that whenever I have a patient over 100, they are almost invariably from Iowa.

The Match is over. How did #neurology do as a whole?
First of all, the number of neurology residency slots is now at 1236. It keeps increasing, mostly driven by categorical programs.
Not shown in this graph, but this number has more than doubled since 2011.
