Work in progress couch coop topdown shooter in a dystopian future

i have spent four hours on a tool that spits out this image for closing sprints; it was quite low-key, fixing bugs but also added an actual enemy and working on more to come! #gamedev #indiegame #indiedev #gamedevelopment #indiegamedev #madewithunity #videogame #gamedevlife

what the tool does: 1. extract relevant info from changelog with awk 2. convert extracted markdown to html with pandoc, using a custom template 3. render the html to an image using wkhtmltoimage

it's a bash script because of course it's a bash script, i'd do synncorp in bash if unity supported it 😁

aight, you forced my hand, ill make a ticket for that new enemy 😁
in order for the baton guards to hit their targets more safely, a new technology was patented MAGNUM BATONS #gamedev #indiegame #indiedev #gamedevelopment #indiegamedev #gamedesign #videogames #games #indiegames #madewithunity #videogame #gamedevelopers #gamedevlife

disclaimer: LOCAL COOP IS STILL VERY MUCH SUPPORTED
tl;dr: I want to deliver SYNNCORP to you all before the heat death of the universe and this made sense
reason 4: effort I really enjoyed learning Mirror networking and using it, but to be honest, it slowed me down. I'm not blaming the tech here, multiplayer just needs an extra layer of consideration imo.

reason 3: story-mode The more you have played through the game, the smaller the pool of players you have that are at the point of the story where you are
reason 3: story-mode Originally I intended SYNNCORP as a story-driven game with online multiplayer. How do you combine that? By unlocking chapters while playing with other players of course. Issue is, if you beat the game you can only replay the old chapters. (1/2)

reason 2: community I'd like for SYNNCORP to be actually playable for a long time. If I focus on online-first, that would mean that I also need a community that's very active and probably has a sustained ratio of new-to-experienced players so it's enjoyable regardless of skill
reason 1: online hosting For an online game, I could either provide dedicated servers or provide the ability for players to host their own games. Dedicated servers are unfortunately a no-no, as I don't have the budget. Player hosting could work, but also needs a community
so in my previous tweet you might have noticed that i have removed online multiplayer support from SYNNCORP, which is in a way sad, but also i think necessary
