Oh no, it's 2026! So what was my "most important" media of 2025? As with all the last times, the only requirement is to have changed my mind about something.

Urusei Yatsura : Beautiful Dreamer (Mamoru Oshii) Made me rethink what works when presenting dreams and imaginary worlds, and was a helpful nudge for my own projects.

The Guardian Legend (Compile) An unexpected combination of mechanics which reminded me there's still cool things I haven't seen, and to stop being such a massive snob.

Finally, some progress! This is, as far as I know, the first demonstration of full color graphics on the SuperVision TV-Link.

...and yes, support for the colorization feature will be included in the next version of Wataroo.

Sarazanmai (Kunihiko Ikuhara) I had zero interest in watching this, then ended up floored by how densely the art direction integrates with its themes without getting overwhelming. It's still a lot of work though.

Le Roi et L'Oiseau (Paul Grimault) Narrative is kinda wobbly, but it left me with lots of new ideas of what you can do with layout.

A Prayer for Owen Meany (John Irving) DIALOGUE WRITTEN IN ALL CAPITALS TENDS TO FEEL LIKE A GIMMICK, BUT HERE IT WAS BOTH ENDEARING AND PART OF THE NARRATIVE.

Oh right, it's another year. So what was my "most important" media for 2024? As before, the only criteria is having changed my mind about something.

It's 2024 and time again for my yearly thing. So what was my "most important" media from 2023? As always, the only criteria is having changed my mind about something.

Kaiba (Masaaki Yuasa) The way memories were presented as physical, tangible, interactive things here felt very unique and well integrated with the story. I really enjoyed how this was used for character studies in the middle episodes.

Defenders of Oasis (Sega) I didn't like trudging through this one, but some of its design choices were really interesting. Once the Genie learns "Hawltart" you're able to adventure indefinitely by strategically withdrawing him from battles.

For anyone who has the Steam version of Rikki & Vikki, you can now convert the data found in the steam version of the game to run on the 7800GD. Details can be found in this thread: forums.atariage.com/topic/35…

Prototype for the MegaLink, a new adapter for using Sega Genesis controllers with the SuperVision TV-Link. Yep, no more need for that hideous dongle cartridge. Shell design by @MagicTrashman and electronics by yours truly.

You wouldn't happen to have a pinout of the supervision tvlink cable between the handheld and the base station? Be nice to make a normal controller for the system.

Implemented a few glue screens in the tile vandalism simulator, it's starting to look like an actual thing now.

It's 2023 and time for another yearly thing. So what was the "most important" media I consumed in 2022? As with the last few of these, the only criteria is having changed my mind about something.

Saving Fish from Drowning (Amy Tan) Using a recently deceased narrator to both convey and influence a story was a really cool approach.

Stray Toasters (Bill Sienkiewicz) Manages to get drastic style changes to flow naturally, and was an absolute blast to read. Had a great time with this one.
