he problem building a cloud agent meant writing the whole harness myself: the loop, the sandbox, the tool calls. the fix openai’s agents api went into public beta on september 10. it runs the same harness that powers codex behind one api call, where you specify the task, model, tools and environment. it supports mcp, custom functions and built-in tools like web search, and computer use was added at devday on september 29. there’s no separate agents api fee, and you pay for tokens and tools at normal rates. action send a session create call, client.beta.agents.sessions.create(...) in the js sdk, or POST api.openai.com/v1/agents/ses… with the header OpenAI-Beta: agents=v1. the sdks add that header for you. pick a sandbox: openai-hosted, your own, or a partner such as cloudflare or vercel. tradeoff pro: openai maintains the harness, and the codebase is public if you want to read it. con: per one report, the beta limits data residency to the u.s. and doesn’t include zero data retention. takeaway fine for prototyping now. i’d check the retention terms before sending it anything sensitive.

the problem i want a claude code job to run overnight, and my laptop is closed. the fix routines (april 14, research preview) are saved claude code configurations that run on anthropic’s cloud. a routine is a prompt, one or more repos, connectors and at least one trigger: a schedule, an api call or a github event. action type /schedule inside a claude code session and describe the job in plain words. or go to claude.ai/code/routines and click new routine. create a seperate environment first and save it, because environments can’t be edited while you create a routine. don’t reference local files, since the cloud session won’t have them. tradeoff pro: it runs whether or not your machine is on. con: it’s a research preview. the cli path only creates scheduled routines, so api and github triggers need the web page. takeaway start with one boring job, like pruning stale branches.

the problem a lot of creators run two pipelines: long videos on youtube, short clips on instagram. neither one is built to feed the other. the fix on october 27, reports said instagram is testing a format called “features”: horizontal videos up to 90 minutes, for selected creators who have individual partnership deals with meta. shorter reels link out to the full-length video. it’s also building “series,” which groups related reels into episodes. instagram’s head said in 2025 that he had reservations about long-form video, and this is a reversal of that. action there’s nothing to switch on yet, since it’s partner-only. what you can do now is plan each long video so it cuts into three or four standalone clips that point back to the full version. that’s the structure instagram is describing, and it works on youtube today. keep youtube as your main upload until instagram shows its ad revenue terms. tradeoff pro: reels already bring in reach, and meta says short clips build awareness while long videos deepen engagement. con: instagram has no comparable ad revenue model for long videos yet, and it tried this before with igtv in 2018. takeaway test the clip-to-full-video structure. don’t move your channel yet.
