Hi everyone! After *13* life-changing years, I’ve left my full-time role at @500GlobalVC to pursue what I'll be doing for the rest of my life (more on that below). 500 first backed me at 19. As a college dropout, 500 was my education. When that startup failed, largely due to my own arrogance and naivete, I was given the opportunity to join as an EIR on a six-month contract. At minimum, I figured I owed them some work after losing their investment. lol Then came the chance to return to Korea, where I was born but hadn’t been back since I was 14. That led to 500 Korea in 2015. Signing the partnership docs, I remember shaking hands with @davemcclure and agreeing to stay for “at least two or three years.” Later, @christine_tsai gave me the opportunity to come back to SF, where I spent my last six years as Managing Partner. Those 6 months became 13 years quite fast... I spent my twenties and then some growing up inside 500. 1M+ miles flown all over the world, friends all over the world, and lifetime airline and hotel statuses I’ll keep collecting on. I got married. Became a dad. Learned and got to form unique perspectives from those experiences. Because of 500. 500 believed entrepreneurship would reach far more people, far beyond Silicon Valley, long before it was obvious. I got to see that happen firsthand. To my teammates, our LPs, and the founders who trusted me: thank you for the friendships, opportunities, and responsibilities I had to grow into. I’m proud of what we built and excited for what you’ll continue to do. As for my next chapter... I always knew I wanted to build again. But leaving a mission I loved and the security of this role, with a baby on the way, wasn’t something I could take lightly. I needed to know this was what I’d be spending the next 30 years doing. I believe AI will enable a new generation of founders, just as other platform-shifting technologies have over the last two decades. And this time, growing their business won’t have to mean growing a large team. We’re building @edaphic_xyz to become the enabler and catalyzer for that new generation of founders. I’m doing this with my co-founders Donny, a former portfolio founder and CEO, and Daniel, my younger brother. I’ve worked with both for years. We share the same vision and the same long-term commitment. I couldn’t ask for two better people to build this with. We’re fully in person, in downtown Austin(!), and hiring engineers. Reach out or make an introduction. And to friends I haven’t caught up with in far too long, I’d love to reconnect. (We wrote about what we believe and why we’re building Edaphic on edaphic.co, and I shared my personal notes on edaphic.co/notes/the-circle-….) There are so many people I want to thank and shoutout. I'll reach out to all of you individually. Thank you. The 30 Year Sprint of my Lifelong Project starts now.

cancel this type of DNC. that certainly was not even close to the top 5 things voters spoke about.
Top of the Democratic agenda on day 1 needs to be a pause on advanced AI development, regulation of this out of control industry, and a ban on artificial superintelligence.

never in my lifetime did I ever think TX would go full blue from top to the bottom of the ticket. Gov, Senate, commissioners, judges.

also, zero chance Kawhi himself didn't know about the salary cap circumvention.
Kawhi Leonard, through his new agent, Harrison Gaines, issues statement: “Integrity and respect for this game are fundamental to who I am. I accept full responsibility for lapses in judgment by people within my inner circle and regret the distraction this situation has caused the fans and my family.   I entered into my contract with the Clippers as well as the agreements in question in good faith, fully committed to fulfilling my obligations and with no knowledge of any intent on anyone's part to circumvent the salary cap.   For 15 years, my priority has been giving everything to my family, the game, and those I share the court with. As I return to Toronto, I am focused on what I can control, closing this chapter, and moving forward with a clean slate."

BRUTAL. 10 Firsts. 3 swaps (including the 2027, not mentioned in the tweet below - which NBA did not take away). Oh, and let's not forget what became the massive hammer in itself, SGA who turned out to be worth more than PG himself (before all of these draft picks). So Clippers will have likely at best the 28th pick in 2027 and that'll be it thru 2033. @SacramentoKings recently got placed as the franchise with the worst future, I gotta figure they'll at least move up to 29th lol.
All in all -- to acquire and later via NBA sanctions -- Kawhi Leonard cost the Clippers: 2021 first round pick 2022 first round pick 2023 first round pick 2023 first round pick swap 2024 first round pick 2025 first round pick swap 2026 first round pick 2029 first round pick 2030 first round pick 2031 first round pick 2032 first round pick 2033 first round pick Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, two time reigning NBA MVP Danilo Gallinari $30 million fine Steve Ballmer suspended for one year Lawrence Frank suspended six months Gillian Zucker suspended one year Leonard averaged 47 games in his seven seasons with the club.

what's the O/U on the number of championships between Spurs and OKC over the next decade? is there another team barring crazy injury luck/timing that can realistically contend? just happy next decade will be run by two of the smallest market teams in the league (24th and 26th).

"The winner of the AI race will not be the company with the smartest model. It will be the company that is most effective at making the local hero—the teacher, the accountant, the community leader—ten times more powerful. Among many weird things about AI is that the people who are experts at making AI are not the experts at using AI. They built a general purpose machine whose capabilities for any particular task are largely unknown. Lots of value in figuring this out in your field before others.

We're launching Lightfield today. It's a CRM designed for founders going zero to one—shaped in the past year by hundreds of founders who took a bet on us and now use it daily, and a waitlist of 20,000 more. When starting out, it takes countless hours of talking to customers to figure out what works. From day zero, Lightfield builds and updates itself from your unstructured conversations with customers. It becomes your customer memory: helping you execute deals, communicate without missing details, and understand patterns across your business. It's free to try. Would love to hear what you think: lightfield.app

People are turning against a system they never actually experienced. The conditions Thiel describes aren’t the result of capitalism working too well. They’re the result of capitalism being slowly replaced by policy-driven scarcity. Student debt didn’t rise because markets ran wild. It rose because government guaranteed the loans. Housing didn’t become inaccessible because property rights failed. It became inaccessible because zoning boards, permitting regimes, and “planning authorities” restrict supply by design. Wages didn’t stagnate because capital exploited labor. They stagnated because taxes, inflation, and regulation drag wealth creation down while inflating the cost of living. So the resentment is real. The generational break is real. But the target is misplaced. People are losing faith not in capitalism, but in a system that wears capitalism’s language while operating as coordinated political control. Ownership was throttled, not by markets, but by policies that prevent individuals from accumulating and applying capital. If you remove those restraints, opportunity expands. If you double down with more control, you get collapse. The question is not whether people will rewrite the system. The question is whether they’ll recognize which system failed.
Here is Peter Thiel’s email to Zuck and Andreessen in Jan-2020 predicting socialism. Tl;dr too much student debt and lack of affordable housing keeps young people with negative capital for too long. And without a stake in the capitalist system, they will turn against it.

1/ A repatriated Korean worker from the Hyundai-LG battery factory secretly wrote a detention diary about their 7-day experience in ICE custody in Georgia. The worker says ICE officers mocked them with words like as "North Korea" and "Rocket Man" despite holding a business visa.
BREAKING: The 300+ Korean workers who were detained in last week's ICE raid at the Hyundai-LG battery plant construction site in Georgia have arrived in South Korea, walking out here in the arrivals hall at Incheon International Airport.
