This is how typical programmer’s day looked like before LLMs

Most of my work recently has been done prompting on the phone with @t3dotcodes app. Seriously considering making my next dev setup iPhone Duo and a mac mini.

Astra is by far the laziest model on the market. Poking it to do work all the time is so exhausting.

I can’t believe Astra has passed any benchmarks for long-running tasks. The whole workflow is so brittle. It stops at any random follow-up, acknowledges a task and does nothing. For an expensive model that is supposed to be an orchestrator it’s such a disaster.

As an experiment I am rewriting my Expo app to Swift and adding a macOS desktop version. Turns out the biggest performance problem is... the macOS itself. Often takes couple hundred ms to show a popup and there's little there that can be done if I want the app to stay 'native'.

It’s a weird feeling to see gaming parts market totally frozen in time. My GPU costs ~the same as it did in 2022. Buying PS5 is still a valid choice. Something unthinkable in 2010s.

I have an app using Expo UI. Since it’s a popular thing recently I ported it to plain UIKit. Looks like there are things we could make lighter! Funny thing is I couldn’t tell apart the apps because obviously it doesn’t get any more native than SwiftUI in Expo.

Great thread. Lots of similar thoughts from building SaaS dashboards in the AI era
We have built 10 different AI products at PostHog like PostHog AI, our Wizard, Replay Vision, Scouts, and more. Combined, they are used by nearly 100k people every month. Along the way, we’ve learned a lot about building them, what works, and what doesn’t. Here are the 38 most important lessons:

Opus 5.5 can get so much done within the weekly limit but sometimes I am impressed how fast a dozen of parallel background agents can quickly kill a session limit

I continue to be impressed that iOS autocorrect still cannot understand why I fixed a word that it incorrectly replaced and immediately tries to do it again. It’s been years. Some of the oldest piece of UX slop out there.

a weird inversion with LLMs is the models improve faster than the tinkerers when i see people with custom workflows and setups they're all addressing problems that don't exist anymore the person naively using vanilla codex is more likely to be experiencing state of the art

Took me 4 days to see my first "byte-identical" with Opus 5.5

If the price for not ever seeing load-bearing again is the caveman grammar I am all for it.

Still can’t get used to how weird talking to Astra is. Just had another situation where I discussed a task with Astra over several messages and then added one follow up question. It replied to the question and just stopped completely. It couldn’t give me any good reason why.

Opus 5.5 seems to be a big step forward in design and visual work. It did a really cool terminal aesthetic redesign of my blog with barely any course corrections.

We still don't know why agents love to make up Expo Docs links that never existed but now we have Jev to redirect them
