Why can’t programmers tell the difference between Halloween & Christmas? Because oct 31 = dec 25.
#HappyHalloween
Even #HPC can get in on the Halloween action.
The short story, "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream," by Harlan Ellison, published in 1967, is about a supercomputer that gains sentience and murders all of humanity except for 5 people, who he intends to torture for eternity.

Something we are doing terribly wrong in the #HPC community is having many of our major conference presentations and talks behind paywalls or not recorded at all. The hiding or complete loss of (now) decades of learning, knowledge, and history is something to mourn. 😞

1980: ARPANET (the precursor to the Internet) ground to a halt because a bad status message propagated, causing all IMPs (routers) to exhaust memory.
The solution? Reboot all IMPs!!! 🤣🤯🏆
This incident was such a big deal that the case study of it was published as RFC 789.

The #HPC benchmark for Top 500 was run on two Chinese supercomputers in March. One reached 1.3 exaflops (peak-1.05 sustained) as did the other. The results will not be reported publicly but we were able to confirm tests and provide architecture conjecture nextplatform.com/2021/10/26/…
