When the people elected me Illinois Comptroller, the state was in dire financial crisis.
Illinois had $48,000 in savings and $17 billion in unpaid bills when I took office.
I got to work - eliminated the backlog, grew our Rainy Day Fund to $2.5 billion and we now pay our bills on time.
Chicago is facing its own financial crisis. There’s only one candidate in this race who has actually managed a major financial crisis and led a historic turnaround.
It’s me. And I’m ALL IN Chicago.

I was given my name by the Iroquois Nation many hundreds of years ago. By 1660 my name was printed on maps by the Europeans as they accepted the Native name which means Beautiful waters.
In 1867 the Canadian government decided to use my name for their providence.

I cut my budget as Chicago City Clerk.
I cut my budget as State Comptroller.
I've returned unused funds to the Treasury because it's the right thing to do for taxpayers.
As Mayor, I'll continue my policy of doing more with less. – at Chicago, IL

I’m proud to announce that Illinois has now received its 11th credit rating upgrade since I took office! We’re continuing to put our state on stronger financial footing and deliver results for Illinois taxpayers.

A lot of people aren't talking about this, but this affects ALL of Chicago.
Let's talk about credit downgrades.
When Chicago's credit gets downgraded, the city pays more to borrow money. That means less money for services, more burden on taxpayers, and a city that can't invest more in its own future.
Chicago's credit rating is low, and what we need is leadership with a successful track record in finance.
As Comptroller, I've earned Illinois 10 credit upgrades on my watch. I'll do it again for Chicago.

We're going to curb the city's addiction to spending, stop the hemorrhaging of our finances, and find efficiencies everywhere we can.
We'll provide better service at lower cost. I did it as City Clerk and I did it as Comptroller.
And as Mayor, I'll deliver a city that works and honors the hard work of every taxpayer. #chicago
