This week, FEMA leadership and the Trump administration signaled that states may soon be expected to handle more disasters with less federal assistance.
During our Joint Subcommittee on Recurrent Flooding this week, I asked VDEM whether Virginia is financially and operationally prepared for this possibility.
This is exactly why passing Delegate @AlexAskew757 HB 169 was so important this year.
We must assess our emergency management needs and prepare for a future where states shoulder more responsibility.

Since Jan. 2025, City Council President @CynthiaNewbille has ignored dozens of questions on tax rates, personnel decisions, free speech issues, code violations & more.
Her silence is "very unusual" and puts Council at a "disadvantage," Bob Holsworth says.

This is NOT Palmer's company at all, his company Anduril is only supplying the tech for the dogs, and this is a wholly owed Collosal entiity

There remains an active lawsuit to force enforcement of ethics laws against Winsome Earle Sears. Jay Jones' office is representing her just as Miyares' office did. Virginia pols in power tend to protect each other, regardless of political party.
Replying to @gmoomaw
Virginia made some ethics reform moves after the McDonnell scandal, but it's mostly still just an honor system.
No one really checks the forms legislators file to disclose their personal business interests. And conflict-of-interest rules are basically non-existent.
Seems like a good opportunity for reform-minded Virginia legislators to introduce legislation /rule changes that plug these gaps. And for GOP members who want to force the Dem majority to kill etics reform legislation.

Legislators don't have to recuse themselves on things that affect their personal business interests if other businesses are affected too.
So a lawmaker who owns a vape shop is free to draft and vote on vape shop bills as long as they don't own ALL the vape shops

2022 @MinCannBusAssoc report: advantages barriers to entry create significant inequities & perpetuate oligopolies in state adult-use cannabis markets: The advantages include automatic co-location of an adult-use license w medical licenses, early market access, opt-out & land use.
Trunp indicted a black woman who is an attorney and sitting state senator, charismatic and media savvy who famously owns and operates a licensed cannabis dispensary for selling weed. I'm sure this is going to go how they think.

There's a pervasive mentality in govt that the proper protocol is to say nothing when public employees are accused of wrongdoing.
You don't often see it applied to allegations of sexual misconduct. But here it is
Amid more allegations of sexual misconduct by another employee of the @VibrantRRHA, CEO Nesmith tells me all of the details are "confidential" and can't be discussed.
He also declined to comment on eviction proceedings against one of the alleged victims.
