Two members of the UT System Board of Regents donated about $1.6 million to Gov. Greg Abbott's reelection campaign using personal funds and totaling more than 90% of the board’s total donations, according to Texas Ethics Commission filings. The governor is responsible for appointing the Board of Regents that oversee UT and the 12 other academic and health institutions in the system, and Texas does not limit dollar amounts on individual contributions to gubernatorial candidates. thedailytexan.com/2026/10/29…

“Kushner told Zelensky that he should pause the strikes because he and U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff were dedicating a lot of time, energy, and jet fuel to mediating with Moscow, one of the U.S. officials said. A 30-day pause on refineries would be a way for Ukraine to show gratitude, that U.S. official said.” An almost comical thing to tell a nation fighting for its existence. Lay down your weapons because we are exhausted from taking a private jet. wsj.com/world/ukraine-pauses…

A private prison company offered Minnesota an empty prison for 75 million dollars. The state said no. Then Trump’s administration paid the same company almost 500 million for it. The prison has sat empty in Appleton, Minnesota since 2010. Last year CoreCivic emailed the state and offered to sell it for 75 million, upgrades included. Minnesota passed. Fifteen months later, Homeland Security bought it for an ICE detention center at 495.6 million. How could this be? You guessed it. CoreCivic gave half a million dollars to Trump’s inaugural committee. And it still gets paid about 75 million a year to run the place. Republicans love talking about fraud in Minnesota. JD Vance says his task force is all over it. So where are they on this one? I break it all down in today’s show (link in reply).
