For 30 glorious seconds, every alt-L1 thought OpenAI had somehow refuted Ethereum.
An internal model at OpenAI has produced a claimed refutation of ETH! Russell Impagliazzo, Mohan Paturi, and I have been asked to help organize an open and independent examination of this claim. 1/4

The older you get the more you realize that politics are psychology: the vast majority of people believe what they do as an extension of their ingrained personalities. They don’t reason from first principles, or adjust policy based on data: they’re woke lefties or tradcons or AI doomers or accelerationists because the political shoe fits the mental foot. Few ever change sides, and if so only after contact with the results of their politics (and usually not even then). Because to do so wouldn’t be updating an opinion, but changing their entire self, and nobody intentionally casts themselves into that confusing abyss.
Dario Amodei was so worried about Y2K that his high school teacher still remembers it decades later. He’s been a doomer for much longer than I thought!

Brutal truth from @Lethain “If you're in [middle] management (…) you sort of have to decide, am I retiring now or am I re-skilling?” He did just this: step down from leading a large team (250 ppl) to be hands-on with a small team (25 ppl), ship code & re-learn the new “rules”
Why a 3x CTO went back to a 25-person team. From Will Larson @lethain, Imprint CTO and 4x book author. "It's a hard time in middle management, right? There's a lot more competition for these roles. What I found personally very rewarding is getting back into the details of writing software. When I left Carta, my team was around 250. When I joined Imprint, the team I was leading was 25. This a unique moment to actually re-skill. If you're in management, I think right now either you have to get back into the details, or the world is changing so radically that the profession you know will not be valued in three years. You sort of have to decide, am I retiring now or am I re-skilling? I think there has to be some openness to taking a backward step or a lateral step. What I knew I wanted was getting back into the details and relearning how to do software in the current age. That's what I believe is going to be the unlock to the longevity of my career."

Chris Rock just nailed one of the biggest problems with wokeness. Helping people who feel marginalized is good. He says so himself. The trouble starts when a good cause becomes an institution. The first few witches were real. Then you open a witch office. Now there are salaries, budgets and pensions to justify, and the office needs a steady supply of witches to keep existing. That’s the trap. Once a cause becomes a career, solving the problem means losing your job. So the problem never gets solved. It just keeps getting redefined. A system built to find wrongdoing will keep finding it, whether it’s there or not.

According to the latest reporting, the heavily armed gunman was already at the Hindu temple and attempted to start shooting, but the gun jammed. The man described himself as a "sociopathic white supremacist Neo-Nazi filled with hatred, fantasizing about mass murder nearly every day." Very disturbing details here: nbcchicago.com/news/local/ja…

Where we see evidence that mathematicians are more interested in the welfare of mathematicians than the improvement of scientific knowledge.
NYU math professor Tristan Buckmaster says OpenAI’s Tuesday drop of 722 AI-generated math papers wiped out entire research programs: “This recent dump of papers on Tuesday destroyed the careers of early career mathematicians.”

Mr. Elon, I want to tell you one more thing. My village is so remote that there isn’t a petrol pump within 10 km, and there isn’t a hospital within 10–15 km. I also live near the Nepal border, and even reaching my village is difficult because you have to drive on some of the worst roads. Yet, despite being in such a remote area, I still get unlimited 5G internet.
Unfortunately, we are being blocked by certain oligarchs in order to maintain their monopolistic chokehold on the Indian people. You can guess who they are … This is a crime against the people of India!

One of the funniest consequences of AI is exposing the fact that mathematicians consider math to be an aesthetic pursuit and a source of permanent unvetted sinecures rather than a set of problems to be solved
The scale of this is staggering. But... Why? Why is OpenAI trying to solve hundreds of math problems to be released all at once? I think we got the point when they found a counterexample to Navier-Stokes -- internal model = great. I am not sure at this point what this (hostile?) takeover of the mathematical landscape is trying to achieve other than, again, a massive PR stunt.

In 2023, the New York Times credulously reported that a hospital had been hit by Israel because Hamas said so without bothering to confirm it. The hospital had actually been hit by a rocket from a group called, I kid you not, Islamic Jihad.
Our headlines and live coverage contain all the facts we're able to confirm as we confirm them. Unlike activists and partisans, we don't publish speculation or unverified information. Here's a Gift Link to follow along as we update our reporting: nytimes.com/live/2026/09/30/…

My salute to the Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar for his extraordinary bravery. Despite being stabbed and seriously injured, he fought back, resisted, opened the cockpit door, and enabled passengers and crew to overpower the attacker — preventing a catastrophic mid-air disaster. He saved the lives of 174 people, including Israeli citizens and other nationals. I wish Captain Machchhar a speedy and full recovery. He is a true hero.
