Brian Thomas Jr’s deployment deserves some scrutiny. It doesn’t explain all his struggles but Jacksonville has moved away from some of what made him dangerous as a rookie.
• 2024: 87 catches 1282 yards 10 TDs
• 2025: 48 catches 707 yards 2 TDs in 14 games
• 2026 through six games: 9 catches 105 yards 1 TD
Injuries complicated 2025 too. He dealt with wrist and shoulder issues and missed three games with an ankle injury.
Reception Perception usage
2024 → 2025 (Coen’s arrival)
• Go routes 13.0% → 21.7%
• Digs 18.7% → 14.1%
• Screens 6.5% → 0.4%
• Catches in space 55% → 21%
More vertical work. Fewer opportunities with room to run.
YAC per catch
• 2024: 6.46
• 2025: 3.31
• 2026: 0.78
Just 7 YAC on 9 catches this season.
BTJ owns part of this. PFF has him with 3 drops after finishing T-4th in drops last year. His separation has also declined. The deployment deserves scrutiny but so does his execution.
A change of scenery might help. A new team could restore some digs, crossers and screens alongside the deep shots. He has to clean up the drops but a system that creates space and gets him catching the ball in stride could help unlock him again.

Target shares in Omar Cooper's two full games:
Cooper 20.6%
Garrett Wilson 15.4%
#Jets WR routes with AD Mitchell (finger) back, on 33 Geno dropbacks:
1. Garrett Wilson 29
2. Omar Cooper 23*
3. AD Mitchell 18
4. Isaiah Williams 7
5. Tim Patrick 3
Cooper, the 30th overall pick, has run just 52 routes this season. He's turned it into 12-248-2 on 13 targets.
I was wrong about Jalen Royals. I didn't think he'd be a WR1 or anything but thought he could be a contributor.
2nd highest route participation among Chiefs WRs last night.
If you're reading this you had the same number of catches as him.
Xavier Worthy followed an encouraging game against the Chargers with his worst game of the year vs the Seahawks, when the Chiefs desperately needed anything from their WRs.
Against Seattle
• 3 catches on 6 targets
• 11 receiving yards (season low)
• 9 yards after the catch
• 1 first down
• Longest play of 7 yards (season low)
• 3.7 Y/Rec (season low)
• 0.33 Yards per Route Run (season low)
• 1 critical drop
Through Week 7 among 76 WRs with 20+ targets per PFF
• Receiving yards 217 (56th)
• Yards per catch 9.0 (T-69th)
• Yards per route run 1.15 (59th)
• Receiving grade 62.7 (57th)
• Routes run 189 (36th)
• Catch rate 68.6% (T-34th)
• Drops 3 (T-8th most)
• Drop rate 11.1% (T-13th highest)
• Passer rating when targeted 82.7 (49th)
Worthy caught all 7 targets for 73 yards last week. This week he turned 6 targets into 11 yards.
It won't get easier with Surtain set to return for the Broncos next week.
Xavier Worthy followed the Raiders game with another step forward against the Chargers. Production was spread across 7 receptions instead of leaning heavily on one explosive play.
Week 6 vs. Chargers:
• 7 catches on 7 targets for 73 yards
• 10.4 yards/catch
• 2.52 yards/route on 29 routes
• 4.7 aDOT
• 40 yards after catch, per PFF
• 4 receiving first downs
• No drops
• Longest reception: 19 yards
Against Vegas his 41 yarder accounted for nearly 59% of his receiving yards. Against LA his longest catch accounted for 26%. His other six receptions produced 54 yards.
Updated season numbers using the same 10+ target minimum. Now 107 WRs qualify, pending MNF:
• T-55th in receiving yards (206)
• 90th in yards/catch (9.8)
• 66th in yards/route (1.32)
• 1-for-4 contested
• 57th in passer rating when targeted (89.2)
• T-44th in routes run (156)
• T-86th in aDOT (8.5)
The season-long efficiency still has ground to make up, but it improved again:
• Yards/route: 1.05 → 1.32
• Yards/target: 6.0 → 7.1
• Catch rate: 63.6% → 72.4%
• Passer rating when targeted: 76.5 → 89.2
Over the last two, Worthy has caught 11 of 14 targets for 143 yards on 57 routes. That's 2.51 yards/route after averaging just 0.64 through his first three.
The difference in usage is worth watching. He produced against the Raiders with a 15.7 aDOT, then followed it with another efficient game at 4.7. His speed can create value beyond deep targets, especially when the Chiefs let him run a real route tree.
I fully expect Andy Reid to deflect any questions regarding Butker, Simmons, the tackles or the WRs by the way.
"I thought we did some nice things."
"We're going to keep that in house."
"That's a great defense and they did a really great job of shutting our guys down."
"Mike does a heck of a job with their defense. They're a really impressive group and they showed it out there tonight."
"The Chiefs don't need to get a WR, they need to let the young guys play."
Yeah, well, Cyrus Allen is the leading WR with 18 yards and they came on the 2nd play of the game. He's ran 5 routes since then.
Take solace in the fact that the Chiefs are only down 13. This could be a 4 score game for the Seahawks real easy
Seahawks defense knows the Chiefs will be throwing now. Let's see how the makeshift tackles handle a defense that can pin their ears back and go after the QB
If it's 3rd down the Seahawks are running slants. It's not a secret. And they can still beat you with it
