One of the top ten performances in history, and all she does is stand there and sing—no dancers, no nose rings, no wild gimmicks, no auto-tune. I don’t think the crowd realizes how lucky they are to hear this live.

Don’t get me wrong, even with Ingram I genuinely believe this Raptors squad would’ve been a top 5 team in the East. But that Cavs series might’ve been the BIGGEST blessing in disguise and the most important domino effect for this franchise. Scottie Barnes realized he can LEGITIMATELY be the #1 option on a contender after taking a team with FIVE All-Stars to 7 games. Ja’Kobe Walter has damn near perfected his three-point shot and looks hungrier than EVER, and CMB is emerging into something the rest of the NBA is gonna absolutely HATE dealing with. That series gave these young boys something you can’t teach: CONFIDENCE. They tasted what it takes to compete, realized how close they actually are, and came out hungrier than ever knowing they can WIN with the right guy beside them. And now you replace Ingram with KAWHI FUCKING LEONARD??? Yeah man, it’s WRAPS. 😭 Enjoy this season because I promise you, the attention this Raptors squad is about to attract is gonna be INSANE. The league is gonna find out real quick what’s brewing in Toronto. 🦖🏆

Jesus And Mary Chain - "Just Like Honey".(1985). For once, I'm letting myself get hooked on a mainstream band, but they're awesome: "Just Like Honey", off their groundbreaking debut album, Psychocandy.

Mark Carney on Trump: "We are looking for partnerships that are complementary, that reinforce our sovereignty. And that's what is on offer here. Nobody is going to tell us what language we speak, no one is going to dictate our culture, or with whom we can strike agreements internationally."

Today on our pod, I broke my own rule. I spoke briefly on politics. And while I don't intend to do so frequently, I felt a need to do so today. Not to specifically advocate for any particular person, but simply to state that I feel a great deal of pride (as a Canadian) in how Canada has handled the past 6 months with @MarkJCarney at the helm. Jean Chrétien, Stephen Harper and Mark Carney are echoing the same sentiments. This is bigger than immigration and taxes. Partisan politics should not stand in the way of preserving Canada's sovereignty or our right to choose freedom from tyranny. My perspective here is entirely non-political. I do not care about partisan affiliations, nor do I want this podcast to become a political dumping ground for personal beliefs. Instead, I am looking at this through the lens of macroeconomics and institutional leadership. Right now, Canada faces an undeniable existential threat from shifting trade policies down south. My ultimate hope is for Canada's long-term prosperity. I hope that once the current era of American protectionism ends, both nations can rebuild a more stable, equitable partnership. That said, I have closely followed Mark Carney's financial sensibility and agreed with his criticisms of the US-Canada dynamic in 2008. His thesis that Canada is dangerously over-reliant on the United States is mathematically sound. Consider the data. Historically, roughly 72 percent of Canada's total merchandise exports have gone straight to a single market, the United States. For decades, Ottawa has catered to Washington to avoid rocking the boat, but that lopsided reliance leaves Canada incredibly vulnerable to sudden American tariffs or...mood swings, power trips, random wars and policies. It's like a really really shitty roommate. The goal should be a robust, diversified trading strategy. True economic resilience means building trade channels and maintaining open lines of communication with nations across the globe. We are already seeing the necessity of this shift. In response to recent cross-border friction, Canada's trade architecture is actively pivoting. Recent data shows exports to non-US markets rising by over 11 percent, alongside a 30 percent surge in exports to China in the first half of the year. Carney's focus on productivity, competitiveness, and global integration aligns directly with this reality, offering a tangible economic strategy that moves beyond the status quo of the previous administration. I will be the first to admit that I am not deeply embedded in the day-to-day theater of Canadian politics. I did not study political science, and I do not spend my days tracking parliament. My analysis is an intuitive, gut-level conclusion shaped by a strict focus on global finance and fiscal policy. Ultimately, my interest is simply a thriving Canada. I want to see prosperity for everyone, from the most progressive voters to the rural, populist conservatives. I do not care who you support politically, as long as we are building an economy that works for the entire country and representing Canadian values on the world stage. I'm not interested in Canada joining the EU as a member state any more than I'm interested in Canada becoming the 51st state for the United States. What I'm interested in is that our very great country stand proudly on the world stage once more. What I hope is that over the next 50 years that Canada can become a world leader in technology, substantial energy and AI. And I hope Canada prospers. Because a healthy Canada means a better, more peaceful world. - Sincerely, Rob

Done deal: The LA Clippers and Raptors have both agreed to complete the trade sending Kawhi Leonard to Toronto for Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, two unprotected first-round picks, one first-round pick swap and two second-rounders, per ESPN sources. The sides will now schedule a trade call.

Teen culture also doesn’t really exist like this anymore TBH. Kids who lived in an analog world had their own lives, adventures, a rich social world their parents knew nothing about. My kid is always in their room or on a device. Where’s the movie in that?
Films like Footloose don’t really exist anymore. I can’t think of the last really good original, coming-of-age film made for high schoolers. It’s a genre that thrived in the ‘80s and sort of petered out through the early ‘00s with R-rated comedies. But I don’t necessarily blame the state of Hollywood - films like Footloose are hard to recreate, it’s hard to capture something timeless like this film. It’s also hard to find actors like Kevin Bacon, who I will always maintain is incredibly underrated.
