Godfather lovers, this account will interest you
In The Godfather, while Clemenza is teaching Michael how to use the gun he’ll kill Sollozzo with, he tells him that the murder will probably start a war.
“These gotta happen every five years or so. Ten years… been ten years since the last one.”
However, the film never explains what that previous war was or why it took place. But Mario Puzo’s original novel does - in great detail.
And it’s essentially the missing chapter explaining how Vito Corleone went from being the neighbourhood Don of Little Italy to one of the most powerful Mafia bosses in all of America.
By the end of Part II, Vito is a “man of respect” in his neighbourhood, and he leverages that reputation to further grow his olive oil business. He uses his “formidable powers of persuasion” to buy out his competitors and establish a monopoly on the olive oil business in New York City.
He has warehouses, trucks, and a highly efficient distribution network. When Prohibition comes into law, Vito repurposes many of these assets into an incredibly lucrative bootlegging operation.
During this period he restructures his organization into a formal crime family, with Genco as his consigliere, Clemenza as caporegime of the Bronx, Tessio controlling Brooklyn, and the men working under them as soldiers. He also builds an invaluable network of police and political contacts, which would serve him for years to come.
However, when Prohibition comes to an end, Vito needs to pivot to another criminal enterprise to keep his organization afloat.
He reaches out to Salvatore Maranzano, who controlled all gambling activity in Manhattan. Maranzano was based on the real mafia boss of the same name, one of the most powerful crime figures in New York City’s history.
Vito proposes a partnership. He would offer his political connections to protect Maranzano’s businesses and help him expand into Brooklyn and the Bronx; in exchange, Vito would receive a share of the gambling profits.
Maranzano “spurned the Corleone offer with contempt...”
He took it as an insult, and Vito as a threat that needed to be stamped out.
Maranzano had a much bigger, more powerful organization built through union-busting and extortion rackets, and strong ties to the most infamous gangster in the country, Al Capone in Chicago.
“Maranzano’s refusal touched off the great war of 1933 which was to change the whole structure of the underworld in New York City.” (1/2)
Double parking exists only in Nigeria 😁
Replying to @itsdeji4sure @PoojaMedia
Yes. There was no parking sign. The OYRTMA claimed it was double parking meanwhile there was no car beside me when I parked. There were several other cars parked in my front before I parked. As soon as I left for market, they dragged my car to their station. It was on Friday and I don't reside in Ibadan. I had to pay the money cos lodging till Monday would definitely make me incur extra fees
We go snap you finish, you go Dey use am cause trouble, dss invite Aloma China 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Qatar, we have work to do. 🇶🇦📸
I’m pleased to announce that I’ll be heading to Qatar as an accredited photographer for the FIFA U-17 Men’s World Cup 2026, covering the tournament from November 19 to December 13.
After covering WAFCON 2026 earlier this year, I’m looking forward to another opportunity to tell stories through football, document the next generation of talent and continue building my journey in international sports photography.
This is another important step for me and OAP Sports Media, and I’m grateful for the opportunity.
For media organisations, publications, brands and potential collaborators looking to work with me during the tournament, my inbox is open.
Qatar, see you soon. 🇶🇦

📸 UK Train Story | Episode 01 🚆 🇬🇧🇪🇨
I met Leonardo on a train from Newcastle to Carlisle, in Northern England, on Wednesday. A young man from Ecuador, eyes fixed on his laptop, deep in work. A conversation began with a shutter.
Leonardo owns Galani, a fashion brand, and it seems the creative process never takes a break. Not even on a moving train.
Sometimes, the most interesting stories begin with strangers sitting just a seat away.
One journey. One stranger. One story at a time.

Last night I was driving on the M6 and actually enjoying the trip when a red warning light suddenly came on the dashboard: “Exhaust gas after treatment faulty.”
Because it was a red light, I had to stop immediately. I pulled onto the hard shoulder, put the hazards on, and called recovery. It was raining and freezing cold. I sat there waiting, and at one point I couldn’t feel my ears or my head anymore from the cold.
Recovery took around two hours. Once they sorted the truck, I finished the rest of my shift and went straight home.
