By definition, “the long acre” means to graze livestock on the verge of a road, but to me, it means a lot more…this expression along with “living on the long acre” was often used by people to describe me and my journey. My love for all thing’s nature & farming related .

This week theres An exclusive episode of @smajoritymedia as we head to Tipperary to spend the day with Maurice Fitz at @the_long_acre Maurice has spent years building a more self-sufficient and independent way of life — living off-grid with solar power, keeping farm animals and working the land. We spend the day walking and talking all things **farming, solar, wildlife, hunting, dogs, self-sufficiency, life and freedom in the modern age**. There’s also an exclusive first as we head out for some **mallard shooting on The Long Acre**, along with plenty of good conversation and, of course, some good grub on the table. A proper look at the Long Acre lifestyle and Maurice’s pursuit of being **as independent and self-sufficient as possible**. Subscribe to **The Silent Majority YouTube channel** and become an exclusive member of **The Silent Majority Media on Patreon** for more. **The Silent Majority Media x The Long Acre 🇮🇪** thesilentmajoritymedia.com

A Deeper Reflection on My Previous Post marking my first fallow buck as it generated considerably more discussion than expected on Instagram & Facebook, much of it centred on a photograph of me holding the antlers and smiling. That smile was never a celebration of death. There is no pleasure for me in shooting an animal. It represented pride in achieving something I have worked towards since I was young—years of learning, training, fieldcraft, licensing, insurance, earning landowners' trust and ultimately putting wild, locally sourced food on a table. There is an uncomfortable contradiction in modern society. We happily consume food while remaining increasingly disconnected from how it is produced. Meat comes neatly packaged and vegetables neatly stacked, while death, pest control, habitat change and the wider consequences of food production remain conveniently out of sight.Hunting removes that anonymity. What I reject is the moral superiority of those who believe that because they didn't pull a trigger or get blood on their hands, their food somehow arrived without consequence. The supermarket doesn't remove you from nature's realities. It simply puts distance between you and them. Whether you eat meat or plants, food requires land and resources and that inevitably impacts other living things. That's not an attack on anyone's diet it's simply a reality of food production. The hunter confronts that reality directly. You see the animal alive, make the decision, accept responsibility for the outcome, do the work afterwards and bring that food home or to a established game meat specialist .Here in Ireland, responsible deer management also requires cooperation between farmers, landowners and hunters, alongside proper permission, licensing, insurance, training. So yes, I smiled, and I make no apology for it. Not because an animal was dead, but because years of aspiration and learning had reached a significant moment. I had responsibly and legally hunted my own food. People are entitled to oppose hunting. What I don't accept is the idea that outsourcing the realities of food production somehow gives someone the moral high ground. Clean hands don't mean you eat off a consequence-free plate.

FAIL TO PREPARE, THEN YOU MUST BE PREPARED TO FAIL. I’ve been warning about this since 2019. Prepping isn’t paranoia. Self-sufficiency isn’t extremism. It’s common sense. With renewed government warnings on mainstream media and concerns across Europe about energy security, power disruption and pressure on food supplies, ask yourself one question: If the system stopped working tomorrow, how long could you survive without it? I built my life around being prepared. My own water supply. Off-grid home. Solar power installed by @ swelectric Fish in the pond. Chickens & eggs. Sheep & beef cattle. The ability to hunt, grow food and live from the land. But the greatest preparation isn’t what you own — it’s what you know. Bushcraft. Food production. Animals. Water. Shelter. Energy. Survival. Problem-solving. Skills nobody can switch off, ration or take away from you without extreme force. For years, people laughed at “preppers.” They’re not laughing quite as loudly now. Don’t panic. Don’t depend. PREPARE. Check out some of the latest podcasts on prepping done by myself & @jamesconwaysfarm On the @thesilentmajoritymedia #Prepping #SelfSufficiency #OffGrid #homestead #prepper

The Truth About Healing, Trauma & Toxic Online Energy with Maurice + Megan (Part 1) youtu.be/x5DS8kMD-6g?is=iOHM… In Part 1 of this conversation on The Silent Majority Media, Maurice Fitz (The Long Acre) sits down with Megan Coogan for a deep discussion around holistic healing, trauma, nervous system regulation, toxic online behaviour, energy healing, self-awareness, and reconnecting with yourself in a modern world that often feels constantly overstimulated. The conversation explores how trauma can live within the body long after experiences happen, the impact of stress and emotional suppression, online negativity and behavioural patterns, and why more people are now looking toward holistic and body-led approaches to healing and self-development. After years working on the frontlines of trauma in residential care with deeply traumatised children and young people, Megan Coogan was led toward a deeper exploration of healing — one that moved beyond the cognitive mind and into the wisdom of the body, nervous system, and energetic field. Now working as a somatic and energy healer, her work supports trauma release, nervous system regulation, embodiment, and spiritual awakening through a deeply intuitive and body-led approach. She is passionate about helping people understand how trauma is held within the body, how emotional and energetic patterns shape our lives, and how true healing happens through reconnection to the self, the body, and the deeper intelligence within. Her work bridges trauma-informed care, somatic healing, energy medicine, and expanded states of consciousness. This episode opens important conversations around healing, awareness, emotional wellbeing, modern pressures, and the importance of understanding ourselves on a deeper level. 🦌💥Another certificate in the bag! I’ve now successfully completed the 2-day Deer Stalking Course with @countrysportsireland , and what a fantastic weekend it was. The course was incredibly informative and engaging, and I’ve come away with a much deeper understanding of deer stalking, shooting, and harvesting of deer in Ireland. Over the weekend, we covered the different deer species found in Ireland, their behaviours, associated diseases, and the laws and regulations surrounding deer management and ethical shooting. On day two, I completed the practical shooting assessment using a .243 calibre rifle kindly provided by Midlands Shooting Centre Ireland, shooting from prone, kneeling, and standing positions at various distances. Delighted to say I performed very well and also passed the written assessment with flying colours. In the coming months, I’ll also be attending the Meat Handling Certificate programme with Country Sports Ireland to further develop my skills in processing wild game responsibly and making full use of ethically harvested deer for food. There’s something incredibly rewarding about harvesting, preparing, and cooking truly wild, free-roaming food for yourself. For me, this ties closely with the sustainable, off-grid lifestyle I value and promote—understanding where your food comes from and being capable of providing it yourself. Rural pursuits, hunting, and countryside traditions have long been an important part of Ireland’s culture and heritage, and I believe these skills and traditions should continue to be respected and carried forward into the future. A big thank you to Country Sports Ireland for delivering such a fantastic course, and a special thanks to Midlands Shooting Centre, Blue Ball, Offaly, for their support throughout the practical assessment. I will now be looking at various rifle manufacturers & calibres to make a decision on what one i will purchase. But I'm leaning towards a .270 benelli lupo . Thanks very much Ronan & all the team @countrysportsireland #huntingireland #shooting #fieldsportsbritain #deerhunting
