My salute to the Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar for his extraordinary bravery. Despite being stabbed and seriously injured, he fought back, resisted, opened the cockpit door, and enabled passengers and crew to overpower the attacker — preventing a catastrophic mid-air disaster. He saved the lives of 174 people, including Israeli citizens and other nationals. I wish Captain Machchhar a speedy and full recovery. He is a true hero.

If catching a student cheating leads to criminal charges under the SC/ST Act, what is the role of an educator? A student's suicide is an absolute tragedy that demands empathy and institutional support. But punishing professors for enforcing basic academic integrity creates an impossible precedent. Should faculty now look away during malpractice or simply walk out of exam halls to protect their own careers? Academic rigor cannot survive if standard invigilation carries the risk of criminal liability. We need systemic student welfare and mental health safeguards, not the weaponization of laws against teachers doing their duty.
Dr Doolla is an acclaimed professor of Energy Sciences at IIT Bombay. An MTech and a PhD from IIT, he has received excellence in teaching award twice. He recently caught a student cheating. The student committed suicide. Dr Doolla has now been charged under the SC/ST Act.

Sir @krishnabgowda, thank you for the clearance drive between Bengaluru Fort, Victoria Hospital and KR Market. Much needed. But BBMP had given permission to these shops with forged documents. Without action on the officials who approved them, we fear the same encroachments will return with a new "GBA" tag. Kindly look into and take action on those officials. That is the only way citizens will see real change. @GBA_office @GBAChiefComm @BCCCofficial @BWCCofficial @comm_blr_south @BNCCofficial @BECCUPDATES – at Bengaluru South, India
Around 233 shops encroaching on the footpath between the Historic Bengaluru Fort, Victoria Hospital and KR Market were cleared today by the BLR Central Corporation. Many of these were permanent metal-fabricated structures erected using forged documents purportedly issued by the erstwhile BBMP, completely blocking the view of the Historic Fort and leaving no space for pedestrians in one of Bengaluru’s busiest corridors. After finding the documents to be bogus, the Hon’ble High Court directed the occupants to vacate within 15 days. Authorities waited 20 days before carrying out the clearance today, marking a major victory for the lakhs of citizens who use every day.

The Ironman is widely regarded as one of the toughest endurance events in the world. It is a grueling single-day test of stamina and determination. Participants must complete a 3.8 km swim, a 180 km cycling ride, and a full 42.2 km marathon, all back to back. On 10 May, my son Nandil, currently in his fifth year at the National Law School of India University in Bengaluru, took on this extraordinary challenge at Ironman Vietnam. After just 7-8 months of preparation, he completed the challenge in approximately 16 hours. As a father, it fills me with immense pride to see his discipline, determination and perseverance. I wish him the very best for the journey ahead and for many more milestones in life.

Sridhar bro, this is 'Billionaire Privilege' disguised as patriotism. You spent 30 years in the US building Zoho into a global giant. You returned only after securing a multi-billion dollar safety net. Telling the Indian diaspora to abandon the US while your company continues to expand its footprint there is the height of hypocrisy. You want the US market’s revenue, but you lecture the people who actually live, work, and pay taxes there. If the diaspora are just 'bystanders,' why is your sales team so focused on them? Patriotism isn't a missionary zeal you impose on others from a position of ultimate financial security.
Open letter to Indians in America. -- Dear brothers and sisters from Bharat: Like I did 37 years ago, you arrived in America with no money but with a good education and cultural heritage from Bharat. You achieved outstanding success. America was good to us. For that we must remain grateful - gratitude is our Bharatiya way. Yet today, a significant number of Americans, may be not the majority but not too far from it either, believe that Indians "take away" American jobs and our success in America was unfairly earned. You may think the next election will fix this, but your choice would be between people who hate our Bharatiya civilisation and people who hate civilisation itself. That is the "hard right" vs "woke left" battle. You are mere bystanders to that conflict. Meanwhile there is one thing that is true now and will be true in the future: the respect Indians command world-wide will substantially depend on the fortunes of India herself. If India remains poor, the woke left will give us moral lectures with pity and the hard right, different moral lectures with scorn ("hellhole") and we must not confuse either with respect. Respect in today's world, along with prosperity and security, comes from one source: a nation's technological prowess. India produces sufficient brain power to achieve that prowess but alas we exported so much of that talent, particularly to America. As we develop that prowess in India, our civilisational strength will assert itself. As difficult as it is for many of you to contemplate this, please come back home. Bharat Mata needs your talent. Our vast youthful population needs the technology leadership you gained over the years to guide them towards prosperity. Let's do it with a missionary zeal. Respectfully Sridhar Vembu

What delulu ! Record breaking heat in India is clearly making people dizzy. Just DON’T - be scientific in your approach. Look at numbers - $1 = ₹94. Temperature = 50C.

Social media is the not most devious way of capturing the most valuable asset of human beings: attention, feed them with distractions & instant dopamines with engaging short videos leveraging the fastest adaptive & smart algorithms. Beware! Your attention is their margin.

If there’s any skill that’s more important in this VUCA driven AI era — it’s “figuring out”. Courage to accept “I don’t know” and hunger to say “I will figure out” is all that is required. No AI/person can take away that skill. Period.

Dear @svembu sir, respectfully none of these National Missions for technology ever work. We need to hack the problem at roots. The University education system. Professors , students, labs and the entire research ecosystem is below mediocre at best. That’s where change needs to come. Not in industry. If ministers think, chips and os should be made in India, it won’t happen. At the least even monitor drivers are not written in India major contributions comes from USA or China. Because their universities teach stuff. Here it is GATE preparations , all in one by hearting, UPSC and DSA at max. We are in a hellhole. We need to come out. If we don’t recognise this and keep pushing political solutions, we will be no where.
I agree. And we have a lot more such tech dependency beyond the app level: OS, chips, fabs, .. it goes deeper and deeper. We need a 10 year "National Mission for Tech Resilience". It can be done.

Aadit Palicha, co-founder and CEO of quick commerce major Zepto, addressed around 5,700 employees a day after raising $450 million in a fresh round which values the firm at $7 billion. Palicha congratulated the team on the fundraise but said going forward the company has to solve for value. By value, Palicha was referring to lowering prices of goods for consumers. “We have cracked proximity, but yet to crack value and DMart, the retail giant, has cracked value but not proximity,” Palicha is learnt to have said, per employees Moneycontrol spoke to.
