I have news: I’ve decided to take a break from writing. Why, you ask? See the video. For how long? Not sure yet. What I do know is that I’ve enjoyed my career immensely and still can’t believe I was able to make a living telling stories. But after more than thirty years in the business—and a recent 60th birthday—it’s time to pursue some goals that I’ve had simmering on the back burner. The clock is ticking and it gets louder every year. I recognize now that I’ve been moving in this direction for some time but without a concrete idea of what it would look like. Not retirement. I already have a second draft of Fade’s next saga tucked away in my drawer and a lifetime of other ideas percolating. The word I’m searching for is sabbatical. A time to step back, reassess, and make sure that I don’t one day end up on my death bed thinking about the places, experiences, and friendships that fell victim to the writing treadmill. It’s been such fun getting to know fans and being part of today’s incredible community of thriller readers and writers. As always, thanks for sticking with me for all these decades. You’ll be the first to know when I’m ready to dust off my latest manuscript and get back to work. Until then, you’ll find me in the backcountry…
