Hey @DCDPR if Barry Farms Pool is going to keep being closed then you need to find a better way to let us know before we get to the pool & find a sign on the door. Sat it was vomit, today it is staffing. Hire some more folks & in the meantime find a better way to tell us please!

I feel extra lucky that I got to listen in on this conversation today! Our young people are problem solvers, doers and the right people to put at the decision table. Always grateful for @P2PDC and the way the create space for student voices to lead the way! #changethenarrative
Thank you @P2PDC for speaking with our students about using their voice to address gun violence in our city. JMS is committed to students becoming advocates in their communities and creating a safe space. @dcpublicschools @DCPSconnected @pantherguardian @dcfamengagement

Sat down to enjoy a relaxing end to the weekend with an insightful & reflective read. Turned the page of @ProfKrisHenning ‘s book to be reminded of the power @P2PDC holds & the importance of a #seatatthetable for our young people. Thank you for always honoring their work!

Nothing better than spending a Saturday with @_cierrajade_ where we get to hang with young people, talk about books and learn about being changemakers! #teachtruth
In the Seeding Disruption Remix youth organizing fellowship for racial justice (@the_equitylab) the Fellows are reading the young readers’ edition of The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks (@JeanneTheoharis) as part of the 10-month program. theequitylab.org/sdx

Howard Zinn's back-to-school advice: “Don’t obey the rules.” Don’t be intimidated by what they say you must teach. I realize that there’s a practical problem that you don’t want to get fired tomorrow. . . .But you must not be so intimidated that you will just follow scrupulously:

You have to give your students reading materials that they would not ordinarily get. You have to depart from the curriculum. Maybe do enough with the regular text to show that, OK, I’m not ignoring it completely, but no, I’m going to take my students along an independent path."

Love to see @TMAtalks alumni staying connected and working to make DC a stronger more inclusive community. Way to go Duane!
We want to give a shoutout to Duane who is a Mikva Challenge DC alum and second time Summer Fellow. He is a current student at Delaware State and this year Duane is interning with @CM_Silverman. We can’t wait to share more about what he accomplishes this summer!

I am proud of the freedom dreams that I hear in my classroom and am grateful to partner with @P2PDC to help work to make the world a safer place for us all. #changethenarrative
In a Southeast DC classroom, a teacher recently asked her 17 high schoolers to write on something they want to change in DC. More than half wrote on gun violence, urging leaders to make guns harder to access. (w/ @phscoop ) washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/…

In the words of the amazing @theleewayat_TMA who supports the incredible student leaders at @P2PDC "Until our kids are safe in the city, there’s not enough attention being paid to gun violence" #EndGunViolence #KeepDCAlive

It's important today to remember that Martin Luther King had personal experience with police abuse & a systematic critique of the role of the police in the North as well as the South. Yet he is often mis-used and falsely pitted against contemporary moments like BLM. A thread:
