I rent a small house from a married couple. Both of their names are on the lease, but since I moved in, I’ve always sent my rent to the wife, just like the agreement says. Apparently, their marriage is falling apart because the husband recently texted me saying his wife no longer has permission to collect rent and that I need to start sending all future payments directly to him. Less than an hour later, his wife called and told me not to give him a single dollar under any circumstances.

I live in a small apartment building with eight units, and my landlord recently did something I’ve never encountered before. He put up a laminated notice in the common area listing the maintenance expenses for every apartment this year. It includes each unit number and the exact amount spent on repairs. My apartment is listed first at $2,340. Apparently, having a faulty furnace component replaced and getting a leaking pipe underneath my kitchen sink fixed makes me the most expensive tenant in the building.

I Paid Their Mortgage. They Kicked Me Out. I spent six years keeping my parents from losing their home. Last Sunday, my mother told me I wasn’t welcome there anymore. All because my younger brother’s future wife claimed I made her uncomfortable. I’m 32, live in Charlotte, North Carolina, and work two jobs. When my father’s construction company went under, my parents were on the verge of losing their house. I started sending them $2,150 every month to cover the mortgage. But it didn’t stop there. I paid their utility bills, helped with my mother’s medication, and even covered my younger brother’s community college expenses. When he got engaged, I gave him another $6,500 to help with the wedding. I genuinely believed I was helping my family through a difficult time. Then came Sunday dinner.

HR Accused Me of Stealing $50,000. I Let Her Keep Talking. HR: We’ve discovered that $50,000 has disappeared from your department. Me: And you think I took it? HR: Our cameras caught you leaving the office at 11:47 PM carrying a black bag. Me: That’s correct. HR: So you’re admitting you walked out with that bag? Me: I’m confirming I had a bag. Nothing more. She leaned back in her chair. HR: Then explain where the missing money went. I smiled slightly. Me: I’ll answer that, but first, there’s something I’d like to know. HR: What is it?

My husband is threatening to stop our children from visiting my sister because I refused to ask her to pay for his three kids from a previous relationship. He thinks that because she earns good money, covering five children instead of two shouldn’t be a problem. I’m married to Daniel. He has three children from his previous marriage, ages 14, 12, and 9. We also have two children together, ages 7 and 5. His older children stay with us every other weekend. My older sister, Melissa, and her husband, Ryan, have four children, ages 11, 8, 6, and 3. They live about an hour and a half away from us. A couple of years ago, their oldest daughter was diagnosed with a serious illness. Unfortunately, the treatment she received at their local hospital wasn’t producing the results her doctors had hoped for. They eventually transferred her care to a specialized children’s hospital more than 300 miles away. Since then, one of them has had to make that long journey with her almost every other week. It’s been exhausting for their entire family.
