looks absolutely incandescent on the big screen. an experience that can't be overhyped.

I think two character decisions always impress me about Mad Men: making this guy kind of wise and not a total asshole, along with making Pete a sincere anti-racist. Other shows will just let the archetypes do the typing for them.

when you've seen films like this it really makes you wanna find whoever normalised the idea that any films that are old/foreign are inherently pretentious and beat them to death with your bare hands
Before the "horror" genre existed, there was this masterpiece of German Expressionism:

all bangers lately, turns out the trick to cinematic satisfaction is to watch shit that comes out between 1971 and 1988

ECLIPSE SERIES 50: SARA GÓMEZ'S REVOLUTIONARY CUBA • Coming to Criterion in December! criterion.com/boxsets/9119-e… A true cinematic revolutionary who used the camera as her tool in the fight against oppression in all forms, the Afro-Cuban filmmaker brought the stories of ordinary Cubans to the screen with a bracing immediacy and insight.

Here’s 32 good to great movies from just the last 18 months
Something fun about the fact movies are going away forever very soon is that it feels like any new movie could be "the last movie". I used to think it would be One Battle After Another but now I feel like it's Primetime

No one. Not to be a downer - but I think there is very little happening in cinema right now because of the state of the world, funding issues globally, genuinely inspired creativity in limited supply. It'll swing back around one day.

This video of a narcoleptic dog is somehow even better than I was hoping

*taps the sign* Please watch this @imPatrickT video. He explains it so well that I really have nothing to add.
I would actually love to hear a cinematographer explain why so many movies look like this now? It’s not just marvel, even comedies that are shot on location constantly have this out of focus background that makes everyone look like they’re standing in front of a green screen

Carpenter's bitterness is 100% deserved. He's a master at doing so much with so little & everyone wrote his work off as schlock til fairly recently. He peaced out & said " You get nothing from me again. Royalty checks for video games & synth music with my son til I die." Love him

There are various issues to disagree with here, but the basic point remains that Wilson is a very poor film reviewer being asked, again and again, to review a film that she has not understood particularly well.
In Christopher Nolan’s “Odyssey,” viewers see inside the Trojan horse, but they “do not see inside the characters or their world,” Emily Wilson argues. theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0…
