The reports are becoming increasingly concerning regarding the health and well-being of illegally detained former Prime Minister Imran Khan and members of his family, who are facing politically motivated cases under an authoritarian regime. A few days ago, Noreen Niazi was taken to a cardiology hospital following health complications. Serious concerns have also been raised about Imran Khan’s blood pressure and access to medical care. Neither Noreen Niazi nor Imran Khan reportedly has any prior history of high blood pressure. Now, Rubina Khan has raised the alarm over her sister Uzma Khan’s health inside Kot Lakhpat Jail. Uzma reportedly has a history of heart valve replacement. Her family is seeking urgent cardiological attention and answers from the jail authorities. These are not matters that should be lost in political arguments. The fundamental rights of detainees are being called into question when basic safeguards are not provided. There appears to be no adequate assurance of regular health monitoring, independent medical examinations, timely information to families, or access to personal doctors. These are not privileges or special concessions; they are fundamental rights that must be respected and protected, even in detention.
