A startup doesn't have to be your life's work, but if it is, you become much harder to defeat. You play the long game and you outlast everyone. Because practically everyone else is an opportunist by comparison.

Incredible conversation with the one and only @garrytan
Avoca (W23) is building what it calls the AI workforce for the physical economy, starting with home services. In just a few years, the company has grown to eight figures in revenue and recently raised over $125 million at a $1 billion valuation. In this fireside, co-founders @apurvas96 and @thetysonchen sit down with @garrytan to share how they found product-market fit by helping businesses turn missed calls into revenue. They explain why AI is expanding what software can do, pushing past the 1% of wallet that traditional software captures, and why they see it as one of the biggest opportunities for founders. 01:28 - Finding the Right Market 03:25 - Why AI Is Bigger Than SaaS 06:59 - The AI Job Story Nobody Talks About 11:53 - How the Founders Met 16:59 - The Pivot 21:47 - Customer Love Beats Market Size 25:31 - Building an AI Workforce 29:35 - Why Customer Obsession Wins 34:12 - Growing to Eight Figures 37:22 - The Vision Beyond Home Services 38:54 - Building a Generational Company

So excited for this launch, it's going to be game-changing!
AI is making marketers lazy. So we made the website do the work instead. Today, we're launching @ployai: the all-in-one marketing platform that turns your website into your hardest working employee. And we're coming out of stealth today with a $27M seed led by @ycombinator and @firstround. I spent 12 years at Webflow as the founding CTO where I built the product, but also started our marketing and sales teams that drove our fastest periods of growth. That experience made one thing obvious: the website is the center of your business. And it's only more important in the age of AI. Foundation model apps can generate assets. Point solutions can optimize pieces of the funnel. But nothing runs the whole growth system: your site, brand, CMS, CRM, campaigns, analytics, SEO, AEO, and customer data all working together. Until now. Teams at @hex_tech and @clay_run, and growth agencies like Tonik and TNT Growth, are already powering sites on Ploy. Hex is generating on-brand ABM pages at scale, Clay is using its data to power a programmatic SEO engine, and TNT Growth is spinning up a landing page for each of their clients’ ads. Wake up every morning with a report from Ploy - with what it did, and what it wants to do next. Approve it. Ship it. Or be lazy and just watch it cook.

Big congrats to @apurvas96, @thetysonchen, and @getavoca. Conventional software tries to force the service economy into rigid workflows - these workflows are often more complex than no software at all - leading to churn and a distrust from business owners. Avoca started with the customer. They dug into how the work actually happens and built from there. The result: every customer interaction handled, every marketing dollar accounted for, and 1000+ businesses relying on Avoca. Most AI has yet to reach the application layer of complex industries. Avoca is the answer for the service economy. We are so honored to be part of your journey!

“When a restaurant misses a phone call, that’s a $30, $40 order,” Avoca cofounder Tyson Chen told Fortune's @agarfinks. “When a home service business misses a phone call, that could be a $30,000, $40,000 HVAC install they’re missing.” bit.ly/4mQ9Qn3

For all the hype around foundation models and coding, the biggest impact AI will have on the economy might be in underserved vertical sectors like home services (cue @getavoca’s announcement today). Proud of @thetysonchen and @apurvas96, who revealed raising $125M today. If you are building in vertical AI, I want to meet you. amplifypartners.com/blog-pos…

Having grown up answering phone calls as my part-time job in Michigan, it was very clear to me that AI was going to have an outsized impact on the services world. That experience led me to founding Avoca with my brilliant cofounder, @thetysonchen.
