Spend less time listening to people talk about people, and more time listening to the people being talked about
may the makers deliver…
After DOGE, Elon came to a conclusion most people missed.
He tried to reform the state from the inside. He failed. And he said it plainly: the government can't fix its own deficit. Nobody in power actually wants to cut. The machine protects itself.
So he drew the only logical conclusion. If the state can't be reformed, there are only two ways this ends.
Either global bankruptcy. Debt keeps compounding, interest payments eat the budget, and the system collapses under its own weight.
Or robots. AI and robotics grow the economy so fast that the debt becomes manageable, and abundance makes the old fights over scarcity irrelevant.
Here's the part almost nobody sees.
For two centuries, capitalism has had a marketing problem. Its gains are real but slow and invisible. 2% growth a year doesn't feel like anything. Your life gets better over 30 years and you never connect it to the system that did it. Meanwhile, the left's promises feel immediate and concrete: a check, a subsidy, a benefit. That's why the left wins on promises even when it can't deliver them. Capitalism produces the wealth, socialism takes the credit.
Robots break that asymmetry.
When productivity doubles in a few years instead of a few decades, people will see it. Things get cheaper, services get better, opportunities appear, in real time. For the first time in history, people will connect capitalism and their rising standard of living directly, almost instantly. The causal chain becomes visible.
And that changes everything politically.
So there are two scenarios.
Scenario one: we stay in the current inertia. No breakthrough, or a breakthrough we regulate to death. The debt wins. Living standards stagnate, then fall. A frustrated electorate turns to whoever promises the most, and that pushes toward a hard collectivist left. But collectivism fails, as it always does. And when it fails, the most organized, most disciplined collectivist force left standing isn't the old left. It's radical Islamism. Bankruptcy, then communism, then something worse.
Scenario two: robots win. Abundance arrives, and it arrives visibly. The link between free enterprise and prosperity becomes obvious to everyone. And this is the key point: it becomes obvious to everyone, including the minorities the left was counting on. Because their long-term incentive is the same as everyone else's. A kid in the suburbs gains infinitely more from a booming, abundant West than from a bankrupt state handing out promises it can't keep. Abundance is the most powerful integration machine ever built.
That's the Western renaissance.
The West doesn't need to win the culture war by arguing. It needs to win it by delivering. And for the first time, it has the technology to deliver fast enough for people to notice.
The race isn't left vs right anymore. It's robots vs bankruptcy.

Most think vibecoding at scale is slop. Here’s a counterexample.
Today we release a 16M-line formalization of the entire Stacks Project, critical infra underlying modern math, with optimized code quality and its highly interconnected structure preserved.
A mathematical city 🌆
What?! The SIs just assign parameter weights directly to get a job done? And only about 4k out of 100k model parameters are assigned?! Kerazy!

my older child is like me—detailed oriented, persistent, loves to learn—makes it easy to think they're doing it right
my younger child has little patience for drudgery and activity that without obvious results
i used the think my younger was disadvantaged, but now that ai supersedes the strengths of my older child, i wonder if my younger is now advantaged, more motivated to boss the ais around to get stuff done faster
until SIs can motivate humans better than humans…

Oh, to be clear, I will very happily keep making videos long past when LLMs can generate clear explainers. I hope people have found value in my videos because they explain things clearly, but that's not even the highest-order bit for what makes a video land, in my opinion.

I see high importance in having a human who is genuinely passionate about a topic, who got obsessed with it, and worked with their own hands to craft an explanation around it, and who tries to share that enthusiasm. Probably all the more important with more AI-generated content.
even when SIs can math better than humans, mathematicians' value is two-fold:
• teaching—transferring a culture of enthusiasm for thoughtful problem solving
• practice gym—machines lift weights easier than you, but you don't get swoll without putting in the reps
Some reflections on AI in math. I found it helpful to simply list out the various parts of what a mathematician does, why math is valuable, and where the funding comes from. From there, what happens if AI gets more capable?

I have a dream that my fellow posters will one day live on a platform where they will
not be judged by the origin of their words but by the content of their reply.

X should have a zero tolerance policy for AI replies
Like you do one and your account is suspended for life
Replies are a nightmare now and it's never ever been this bad
AI replies are an an existential threat to the future of this platform, because people will simply stop using it if the vast majority of replies are AI bots

A South Korean government LCA (full production-to-disposal) of 4 straw types across 16 impact categories found conventional plastic lowest in 10 areas, including climate change and toxicity. Paper scored 6.33x higher on carcinogenic emissions impact and 2.04x on acidification, due mainly to higher resource use, energy, and chemicals in manufacturing plus disposal emissions (mostly incineration). Bio options scored worse still. The study stresses reducing single-use items overall rather than material swaps.
we're just getting started in orbit and then…
"Kessler syndrome. First modeled […] in 1978, […] in which the density of objects in low Earth orbit gets so high that collisions start producing debris faster than natural processes (mainly atmospheric drag) can remove." 😬
OSINT analysts who have been bashing @ElonMusk for days over this don't get it. Russia has the capacity to blow up satellites in space. They proved this on November 15, 2021, by firing a PL-19 Nudol missile at an old satellite of their own.
The impact created a large debris cloud—more than 1,500 trackable fragments plus hundreds of thousands of smaller pieces. The International Space Station was forced to implement safe-haven procedures: the seven-person crew (including Russian cosmonauts) sealed hatches and sheltered in the docked Soyuz and Crew Dragon spacecraft for several hours as the debris cloud repeatedly crossed their orbital path.
The ISS even had to perform thruster burns on multiple occasions over the following months to avoid the debris cloud orbiting the Earth.
If Russia decides that the civilian Starlink satellite network is weaponized and fair game, we risk a serious Kessler syndrome. First modeled by NASA’s Donald Kessler and Burton Cour-Palais in 1978, it describes a scenario in which the density of objects in low Earth orbit gets so high that collisions start producing debris faster than natural processes (mainly atmospheric drag) can remove.
Each collision creates more fragments, which raise the odds of further collisions, leading to a self-sustaining cascade, a runaway cloud of satellite debris that can make certain orbital bands increasingly hazardous.
Space could become unusable for years to centuries.
You like driving around with GPS? Starlink MUST remain a civilian entity.

"So today I asked Opus 5.5 the following (typos and all, prompting has become much less important as AIs get better): “I have a post showing the what happened over the past 30 months of AI in honor of my new book (published 30 months after the origina). i want you to make the ultimate otter on an airplane using wifi video. just something fantastic, i know you are creative, give it a go.” Using my subscriptions to various online services from Google and ElevenLabs, it produced the following. (Turn the sound on)
The video has a few flaws. But the AI figured out how to make it, from the script to the images to the concept to the music to the technical aspects of creating all of this, without any help from me. That is what has changed."
i'm still learning the second verse of this bitter lesson 🙃
People asked for me to upload the Bitter Lesson video from this piece to YouTube, so here you are: youtu.be/OAwat51S_Sk
Take in wisdom about quality audio, turning passion into a business, from an entertaining full interview of John Meyer of @MeyerSound , the company that brings you the most clear sound reproduction at your favorite concerts. Every speaker introduces coloration, the only way to fix it is through smart digital signal processing (dsp) (you can selectively add back in your favorite distortions (tube amps, marshal amps, vinyl, any particular speaker brand)).

Pretty sure we could manage this in a git repo with people submitting reviews as PRs to divide and conquer?
A lot of people have excess capacity on their subs and wouldn't mind burning some pre-reset tokens to harden our foundations.
Folding at home for academic peer review.
what'd'ya'know, @tokatedev is making donating excess tokens happen (TOKens + DonATE = tokate, get it?)
still not easy enough yet (like an old-school screensaver)
the renaissance branding is fun too
