not officially confirmed, but @TheMarker, israel's main business paper, is reporting that @prlnet's lab raised $130M from lightspeed, ribbit capital, and square peg.
$55M in equity and $75M for a fund to build out GPU infrastructure.
ribbit and lightspeed are also named as pearl backers on its profile in greenfield partners' disruptors 60 list.
if this is real, the $PEARL bear case gets a lot worse. here's why:
1) $PEARL traded on a "no VCs, fair launch" story.
pearl's code doesn't allocate tokens to founders or investors, and that part is probably still true. but the lab behind pearl is reportedly VC-backed, and nobody corrected the narrative while it pumped.
2) the value goes to the equity, not the token.
the lab sells inference and gets paid in USD, and the VCs own the lab. $PEARL holders don't get any of that revenue, just diluted by new supply.
so the investors can do well even if $PEARL goes to zero.
3) it goes against the "sovereignless bitcoin" pitch.
part of bitcoin's monetary premium is that no company controls it. pearl's upgrades are drafted by a VC-backed lab, including the FP8 fork that would tie mining more closely to inference, the same business the lab sells.
4) the $75M GPU fund.
we don't know if those GPUs mine $PEARL. if they do, the company is collecting a share of ~85% supply growth this year, on top of whatever insiders mined early.
remember that about 1/3 of today's supply was mined in the first 6 days.
5) zcash had investors too (20% of its early block rewards went to founders and investors) but that was public from day 1. everyone knew who got paid and how much.
pearl hasn't disclosed any of that.
holders deserve to know:
> who invested
> whether any investors or insiders hold $PEARL
> whether the GPU fund mines $PEARL
a fair launch shouldn't need a newspaper to tell you who's behind it.
i was a $PEARL bear on friday. i'm a bigger one now.

Team shipped discount heatmaps, so you can see what discounts have been clearing the market over the last 24h.
This helps buyers know what discount to expect, and helps sellers decide on pricing.
This one is for Astra. There's consistent 90%+ discounts clearing the market from lower quality providers. But also a steady stream of demand for better providers around 60-40% discounts.

Kimchi is the first person to truly cross the chasm between crypto and pop culture; the first ever example of a trader becoming a celebrity.
He represents exactly where we’re heading: a massive social trading ecosystem that onboards retail and grows to 10x the size we were last cycle.
The next wave of users does not come from CT - it comes from the masses - and we're proud to have Kimchi help us set the creative direction that will pave us on the path to a 100x larger ecosystem.

Pump.fun promotes @kimchi1x as an aspirational celebrity trader via ads and partnership posts. His widely cited $40M $TRUMP profit lacks public wallet verification, while associated wallets show repeated early bundling/sniping of launches followed by sells.

Kimchi is presented as a verified trader celebrity crossing into pop culture, but his signature claims of ~$40M profits trading $TRUMP (and resulting wealth) remain unverified with no disclosed wallet or on-chain proof.

Inference markets will be onchain and the pioneer of that will be @AskSurplus
base:0xc52aedec3374422d7510e294cfaa90799595cba3
NEWS: Onchain inference markets are posting record token usage.
Base-based Surplus Intelligence processed a record 312.6B tokens on Oct. 18, up from 133.6B on Sept. 23, per its dashboard. $DLPHN hit 32.2B daily tokens one week after its API went live, per @0xJeff.
Inference has emerged as x402's biggest use case, with onchain markets offering discounted models and some pseudonymity.

It’ll be so obvious in hindsight
Usage stats for $Surplus , trade not crowded as well.
I’m confident we see surplus at 100m soon, we had orbio which was a dogshit copycat at 100m soon it’s just a matter of time.
Study inference tokens
Tokens with actual value > memecoins
I will keep buying coins that provide actual value outside our little meme space and don’t have an expiration date on their virality.
I believe coins that target broader markets (AI, for example) and implement buyback mechanisms will be the winners in the mid to long term.
People have lost confidence in aping memecoins because they know it’s only a matter of time before they go to zero once the attention fades.
These people will start looking for coins they can ape and hold, knowing there’s actually useful shit behind them.
And if the team is doing buybacks, holders know they have a stake in the project’s success and can benefit even if most of its users come from outside the crypto space.
These coins are already out there. It’s just a matter of time before everyone starts buying them.
Surplus just hit 300B tok/day
Dolphin hit 32.2B after 1 week of API going live
Onchain Inference is accelerating faster than anyone expect
More catalysts incoming in a few weeks
Have a feeling Onchain AI might accelerate 10x+ by the end this year
We're seeing rapid growth of top teams on Base already
> @AskVenice already hit 500B tok/day, up 2x from Sep
> @AskSurplus set to hit 240B tok/day up 2.5x from Sep
> @dphnAI hit ~14B tok/day a few days after public API
Bittensor also announced Null Consensus upgrade, providing an option for subnet to expand the # of miners to 2,500. The potential downside is only 1 validator decides who get the rewards and who don't.
Under the right conditions, this could mean faster iterative loops, more efficient product improvements (would need well-designed scoring system + healthy miners competition ofc)
Can't wait to see the next leg up for both AI on Base and on Bittensor!
[I'm surprised not many people on CT realizes this yet but Onchain AI val remains heavily compressed while metrics are rapidly growing every single week.
We cover this a lot on Substack so if you're interested, feel free to check that out]
