A map of the European universities in the Middle Ages. It's pretty impressive that most still exist!

By now many will have read the latest take at business school self-hatred in no less than the New York Times by a (soon former) colleague. (Thread)

How do we get our work to influence policy makers, and be read by practitioners? Certainly not by further sabotaging our legitimacy in the NYT. The economists will be able to continue monopolising the public debates while we tell the world about how crap we are.

I am not saying business schools are perfect - we have plenty of work to further improve the curriculum, the classroom experience and to better assess and develop our work. But we should take stock instead of reinvent the wheel and throw the baby out with the bathwater.

God and Jason Arday are together right now, at peace, watching Richard Dawkins attempt to remain relevant.
"Academics launch rival inquiry Committee for Academic Freedom will examine [whether Jason Arday’s] employment at Cambridge met expected standards" (Times) I’ll submit my own assessment of Arday's illiterate thesis. It failed to meet expected standards for PhD, let alone a Cambridge professorship.

New review paper on the dark side of organisational learning
What if organizations become better at doing the wrong things? In our new Academy of Management Annals paper, we explore how learning itself can reinforce rigidity, amplify errors, and create self-reinforcing cycles of misfortune, a phenomenon we capture as learning-based organizational zemblanity. The key questions for organizations: How can they recognize when learning is taking them in the wrong direction, and how can they break out of these cycles? Looking forward to your thoughts and any examples you’ve encountered! journals.aom.org/doi/abs/10.… #zemblanity #serendipity #misfortune @AOMConnect @thomroulet @AOM_STR @AOM_TIM @AOM_OMT

Authors are pretty good at anticipating what part of their work will be more influential
Many assume it's super hard to predict paper citations, but it's really not. Authors can pretty reliably predict* which of their papers will be more highly cited * potential confound: authors may promote their favorite papers more, causing more citations

My latest for @TheEconomist: AI writing is taking over politics. 10% of what was is said in Parliament is now AI-drafted, per Pangram. Yet more in the House of Representatives, or in Australia and Canada. Link: economist.com/britain/2026/0… And a 🧵 below, w/ some main offenders

Who benefits the most from AI: senior employees or junior ones? Senior lawyers according to this new experiment on patent drafting. Junior people struggle to build their expertise. nber.org/system/files/workin…
