ALT Image that says: I campaigned proudly for a Labour government, truly believing it would bring positive and necessary change for so many. But since taking office, this government has embraced culture war rhetoric rather than challenging it. It is clear that it has chosen political safety over basic morality. The refusal to meaningfully advocate for Palestinian lives amid genocide, and the failure to stand against the ongoing harm inflicted on trans people—especially through the actions of the Prime Minister and the Supreme Court—have left me deeply disappointed. As a member of the Young Labour National Committee, I’ve witnessed firsthand the immense pressure placed on those who attempt to push back against leadership or advocate for justice. Too often, we are met with the same directive: follow the party line.

ALT Image that says: That said, I know there are people on these committees who care deeply and are doing their best to make real change. I have respect for my peers who continue to fight from within, and I will not critique them further. But as an individual, I can no longer support a party that has become so distant from the values I hold. I have become disillusioned with the idea that this Labour government will deliver the change we so urgently need. With that in mind, I’ve cancelled my Labour Party membership and am resigning from my position on the committee. I want to stand and advocate proudly for my trans siblings and the most vulnerable and marginalised groups in society and I do not believe the current Labour Party provides me with the space to do so. This decision has not been made lightly, but I believe it is the right one.
