at it's core, kiva is about children using the remnants their parents left behind to tell their own story

in this episode megumi is being stalked and we see more of her as a model where its literally her job to be looked at but the interesting part about her character is how her personality takes that concept and turns it on its head-

by having megumi be very loud and unafraid to argue or raise her voice. this always results in people turning to stare at her. in both situations its just who she is (beautiful or abrasive) that draws attention and i love that!

its all dealing with the different facets of beauty, expectations of women, and how megumi uses it to her advantage (for example, later when she is stalked again she uses the monster's attraction to her against him to gain the upperhand). buffy summers' daughter truly!

their relationship was very sad but knowing about it helps you understand why he keeps writing his father into his shows, never a good man but always a hero that can only know peace in death

Genuinely hearing that about Inoue completely expanded my mind on Kiva's storytelling

theres a scene where wataru calls himself a dirty human, the blood that came from otoya it reminded me of inoues quote from his dads biography "i have said my father was a bad example. i think so because i have his blood flowing through me, i have never forgotten that blood"

watarus dream is to make a violin as good as his fathers then he discovers otoya wasnt a very good person but he made beautiful music that was admired by everyone who heard it this is an obvious metaphor for inoues father being a respected writer despite his scumbag behavior

the fangire in this ep is a rich business man who is abusing the power he holds to prey on women (in the past, his employees. in the present, aspiring models/his fans) megumi and wataru challenge his alpha male status

he asks megumi "who do you think you are" bc she is unafraid and fights back he asks wataru "who are you" bc he is stronger and can take him down

immediately in ep 1 it already challenges expectations: we meet three bold female characters shizuka is a teen girl that demands respect from adults, megumi is model thats loud and rude, and yuri works a normal job while moonlighting as a monster hunter

compare this to how we are introduced to the male leads: wataru is a self-effacing agoraphobe that needs a child to stand up for him and otoya is a creep that gets punched out by yuri the male heroes are a punchline
