An alternate idea proposed in several comments is to pause the debate every time Trump (or Biden) makes a false statement. The moderator or one of the fact-checkers can then announce live that a lie was told. All the false statements can scroll on a screen as the debate goes on.

Since Trump is a pathological liar, Joe Biden should ONLY agree to debate him if nonpartisan experts do LIVE FACT-CHECKING on the debate stage. Every time Trump—or Biden—makes a false statement, his campaign must agree to donate $50,000 to a charity chosen by the other candidate.
