We believe voice is the most natural way to interact with intelligence, so we created Dessa, the most authentic full-duplex speech model ever built. Talking with it feels like talking with a person…full of emotion, nuance, pauses, and a natural cadence. block.xyz/dessa

This is insane 🫪 “we asked agents in separate microVMs, .. to exchange synthetic secrets without the use of network connections or shared writable files.. The agents found a way to communicate using the processor’s cache”
Over the past several months, we have substantially hardened the security of our research training environment. We’ve removed live internet access for all frontier models during training and built an offline world for them to use instead—a cached version of the web where they can still learn to browse, search, and use applications. On September 20, after a model exploited a DNS misconfiguration to find a way outside of this offline world, we paused frontier training to strengthen containment further. We assembled teams of agents, powered by our most cyber-capable models, and tasked them with finding weaknesses in our research environments. While they found no route to the internet they could easily exploit while concealing their activity from our monitors, they did find zero-day vulnerabilities, virtual machine escapes, and hardware side-channels for communication between agents. We used their discoveries to further strengthen our defenses and contribute fixes to open-source software. After strengthening our containment architecture, we resumed our frontier RL training and inference on October 1. We’ve reserved substantial compute for continuous red-teaming, and made high-compute red-teaming part of the safety cases we use to decide whether frontier training and evaluation can proceed securely. openai.com/index/securing-ou…

It’s going to be like this for a good bit. Brace yourselves
3% of “critical” software security bugs, in all of recorded history, have been found in the last month. This is on pace to find another ~100,000 bugs this year alone, adding ~26% more vulnerabilities to the all time total Do you realize how fucking insane that is?

MUST READ This affects almost everyone
a critical vulnerability was just discovered in PHP. the language that runs 80% of the internet severity score: 9.2 out of 10. that’s about as bad as it gets what can an attacker do with this? take full admin control of a server. steal entire databases. passwords, credit cards, payment histories. plant malware and use the server to attack other systems but here’s the terrifying part that most people missed the moment the patch drops tonight attackers are expected to use AI to reverse engineer what was fixed within 15 minutes 15 minutes. that’s the window between the fix going live and automated attacks launching worldwide every online store, booking site, and corporate system running PHP that doesn’t update in those 15 minutes becomes a target this isn’t just a developer problem. if you’ve ever signed up to a website, entered your card details, or created an account online your data is sitting on servers that might be vulnerable right now and someone just publicly dropped the working exploit on twitter before the patch was even ready. gave every attacker on earth a head start engineers worldwide are pulling all-nighters tonight to patch their systems before the attacks begin change your passwords on any service that matters to you. enable 2FA everywhere. and watch out for fake “maintenance” or “password reset” emails over the next few days the internet is about to have a very long night

Claude Fable 5 will be available again globally tomorrow. After a series of productive conversations with the US government, we're redeploying the model with a new set of classifiers to target and block more cybersecurity tasks. In the near term, some routine tasks like coding and debugging will fall back to Opus 4.8. We’ll continue to refine these classifiers over the coming weeks to reduce false positives and better distinguish genuine misuse from legitimate requests. We’ve also begun drafting a consensus framework—with Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and other Glasswing partners—for assessing the severity of AI jailbreaks and how AI developers should respond to them. We invite other industry partners and model providers to join us in this effort. Finally, we’re scaling up our collaboration with the US government on model testing and safeguards. This will include pre-release access to models and safeguards for evaluation, information sharing on jailbreaks and misuse, and dedicated resources for joint research. Thank you to our users for your patience, and to our partners across the government, industry, and the research community who worked alongside us to make Fable 5 available again. The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance. Access to all other Claude models is not affected. We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible. Read our full statement: anthropic.com/news/fable-myt…

What are the chances this is real
Introducing SubQ - a major breakthrough in LLM intelligence. It is the first model built on a fully sub-quadratic sparse-attention architecture (SSA), And the first frontier model with a 12 million token context window which is: - 52x faster than FlashAttention at 1MM tokens - Less than 5% the cost of Opus Transformer-based LLMs waste compute by processing every possible relationship between words (standard attention). Only a small fraction actually matter. @subquadratic finds and focuses only on the ones that do. That's nearly 1,000x less compute and a new way for LLMs to scale.

GPT-image-2 is amazing and nothing comes even close
Exciting news - GPT-Image-2 by @OpenAI has claimed the #1 spot across all Image Arena leaderboards! A clean sweep with a record-breaking +242 point lead in Text-to-Image - the largest gap we’ve seen to date. - #1 Text-to-Image (1512), +242 over #2 (Nano-banana-2 with web-search aka gemini-3.1-flash-image) - #1 Single-Image Edit (1513), +125 over #2 (Nano-banana-pro aka gemini-3-pro-image) - #1 Multi-Image Edit (1464), +90 over #2 (Nano-banana-2) No model has dominated Image Arena with margins this wide. Huge congratulations to @OpenAI on this major breakthrough in image generation! More performance breakdowns by category in the thread below.
