“Before I let anyone take from me the Word of God and ask me to deny my God, I will kneel and let them strike off my head.”
You would not believe how hard I smashed the “New Ulm” option.
I was recently informed about the original first stanza to “Lord Keep Us Steadfast in Your Word” and we need to update all our hymnals yesterday.
Y’all don’t need to see my ugly mugshot but I guess this is my ideological profile. No idea what any of it means.
I saw a crazy stat once that something like 80% of healthcare costs come in the last two years of life. Yeah, healthcare isn’t cheap, but much of that cost is a choice, where everyone is doing everything they can to avoid death.
Why, O LORD, do you reject my soul?
Why do you hide your face from me?
I have been afflicted
and I have been close to death since my youth.
I have endured your terrors.
I am in despair.
Your rage has swept over me.
Your terrors have destroyed me.
All day long they surround me like water.
They have battered me completely.
You have distanced my loved one and friend from me.
My only friend is darkness.
Psalm 88:14-18
Notes from the EHV Study Bible:
A special problem of Psalm 88 is the depth of Heman's despair. Many readers canot imagine such dark words coming from a believer. But God's children may find themselves temporarily overcome by despair when devastating disaster strikes them. Job and Jeremiah were two other believers who passed through the same depths as Heman did before they regained their spiritual bearings. Asaph, the author of Psalm 73, was also near the brink.
Such despair is not right, nor is it necessary, since the good and powerful God is still in control even when the situation looks dark, but God has allowed such dark hours of his saints to be recorded in the Scriptures for our benefit. Though their faith was hanging on by a thread, God did not allow that thread to be broken. God does not break the bruised reed or snuff out the smoldering wick of faith (Matthew 12:20). He will bind up the broken reed and fan the faint spark of faith into a flame again.
This psalm is written for our benefit, so that if we ever face times as dark as those of Heman, we will recognize that we are not unique in our anguish. Like Heman, we can keep watch over the dim spark of faith and can continue to pray until God makes the answers clear to us once again.
Most look at this and react with 😠 or 🫣. I wonder if this would actually work. The almost imperceptible difference in trace length is a meaningful time delay when running over a gigahertz. Is a cpu durable enough to survive? My money says no.
This is all we’re gonna do for now. If it leaks too much there’s another thicker sheet of styrofoam I can get to add as another layer.
My eyes are always on the LORD,
because he frees my feet from the net.
Turn toward me and be gracious to me,
because I am lonely and afflicted.
Relieve the distress of my heart,
Bring me out of my anguish.
See my affliction and my trouble,
and take away all my sins.
See my enemies
—how they have increased,
and how violently they hate me!
Guard my life and rescue me.
Do not let me be put to shame,
for I have taken refuge in you.
May integrity and uprightness protect me,
because I wait for you.
Redeem Israel, O God, from all its distress!
Psalm 25:15-22
There’s no worse kitchen tragedy than realizing the family size bag of shredded cheese you thought you had in the fridge doesn’t actually exist.
I should just implement a rule that I grab a bag every time I’m at the store.
