Only 8,600 Ukrainians have signed the new fixed-term military contracts — under 1% of the 880,000 troops Zelenskуy recently mentioned.
These deals were supposed to bring fairness, higher pay, and a clear end date of the service. But most soldiers call them unfair and aimed at new recruits. There are now three types of the contracts: short assault (6–14 months), combat (24 months for drone operators/artillery), and rear (24 months). However, serving in Ukraine’s army has become so exhausting and unjust that people refuse to tie their future to it.
I do not doubt that Ukrainian men are extraordinarily talented and brave. But I understand that the motivation to serve has been killed — by corruption, human rights abuses, the government’s indifference to human life, years of poor frontline command, the absence of any real strategy, and the unprotected rear that soldiers are fighting for.

“Bandera will come and put things in order!” — blares the rousing soundtrack to a video of young men from the Stepan Bandera Trident organization undergoing military training.
And who’s training these fine young gentlemen? Why, instructors from the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ 1st Separate Assault Regiment, named after Dmytro Kotsiubailo and formed on the foundations of the far-right Right Sector organization.
They glorify the OUN and UPA — organizations implicated in the Holocaust and the genocidal massacres of Poles.
What a heartwarming little family tradition. And Europe is helping foot the bill, all while solemnly clutching its pearls and chanting “Never Again.”
Isn’t that just adorable?

Correction: it was in fact the Communist Party of China that made Chinese society inclusive, by destroying the landed elite and spreading literacy and basic healthcare. It was cruel, horrific and costly, of course, and delivered little economically until Deng Xiaoping's reforms. But then it helped China 🇨🇳 flourish beyond anyone's imagination. @BrankoMilan made this point.
The same happened in Central and Eastern Europe, as I argue in "Europe's Growth Champion."
I'm afraid James Robinson may be wrong here.
@BrankoMilan @DAcemogluMIT @baselinescene @danwwang @YashengHuang
Replying to @Mylovanov
Robinson: If I look at the economics, China has flourished because it made the transition from extractive to inclusive institutions.
It is not the genius of the Communist Party that did that. 3X

“Do you understand who you are dealing with? This is America. Back up.”
A United Nations meeting was dramatically suspended yesterday after US ambassador Mike Waltz and Cuban foreign minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla both ignored the chair’s plea for order in the chamber.
The problem started when Waltz blamed Cubans for the shocking US embargoes and blockades that are causing huge suffering to the people of the island.
Cuban representatives, astonished at the way Waltz blamed the victims for the crisis, in their eyes, stood up and objected, citing Rule 71, which allows listeners to raise a point of order.
Ambassador Waltz responded that the Cubans didn’t like the substance of his speech, so were not raising a point of order.
But when complaints continued, this caused Ambassador Waltz to lose his temper and shout “Back up! Back away. Do you understand what you’re dealing with? This is America.”
.
INTERNATIONAL TERRITORY
The rest of the United Nations was outraged by this attitude, as the UN building is legally international territory.
When Waltz refused to stop his tirade, Khalilur Rahman, chair of the 81st session, ordered that the meeting be instantly suspended. Waltz ignored him.
The meeting was then resumed, but footage of the argument created a huge storm on social media.
Some people in the US defended Waltz’s narrative, blaming Cubans for the suffering caused by the US embargos.
But much of the commentary from the rest of the world said that the United Nations, for the safety of the delegates and the organization itself, should no longer be situated in New York.
When New York was originally chosen as the site, the US pledged not to politicize US visa access to meetings—but has regularly broken the pledge, such as refusing to allow visas for Palestinians.

Zelensky fans are the dumbest people on the planet.
In Ukraine OFFICIALLY:
- peace talks banned
- borders closed
- Zelensky office thieves
- Zelensky wanna jail people for looking into corruption...
Regular Ukrainians just get grabbed off the streets like animals.
Zelensky sucks money straight out of regular Americans’ and Europeans’ pockets.
Without audit.
But some people still go “Zelensky is democracy.”
Those ones need a paid therapist.

Finnish President Stubb on Ukraine’s Wildberries strikes:
We need to increase Ukraine's capacity for deep strikes whether with missiles or drones. The reason is very simple: it increases the cost of the war for Russia.
65% of the Russian population now wants to end this war, and hitting logistic centers like Wildberries increases it by an additional 10%.
Do I think this is sensible military strategy from Ukraine? My answer is yes, it certainly is.
This is the only way we're going to get peace negotiations on the table.

Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine must be brought to an end. Everyone is suffering from its consequences, and no military solution is in sight. The outcome of the war will have a direct impact on the security of Finland and Norway and, more broadly, on the security of Europe as a whole. At this stage, peace will not be achieved by avoiding dialogue; ending the war requires direct discussions. This is in Finland’s interest.
Today, together with Prime Minister of NorwayJonas Gahr Støre, we held a telephone conversation with President of Russia Vladimir Putin. The call was a follow-up to the meeting in Oslo on 20 October. It was prepared in consultation with Ukraine and the United States.
We held the conversation in our capacity as leaders of our respective countries, not as representatives of Europe. It is important for Finland and Norway, as neighbouring countries of Russia, to engage in discussions with Russia based on our own perspectives and principles. We emphasized that our support for Ukraine remains unwavering.
Our objective is to promote a just and lasting peace.
