Picture of the day: Orbán hanging out at the terrace of Hotel Normandy in Paris, on the October 23 Hungarian national holiday. Honestly, he could just be relaxing or looking at his phone, but the image got a new, symbolic meaning in the Hungarian press as the "exiled, isolated strongman".

Fertilizer through Hormuz has dropped to zero. No fertilizer cargoes crossing the strait in September or October. Before the war, about 20% of the world’s traded nitrogen fertilizer went through it, Fertilizer Daily reports. The Gulf also supplies about half of the world’s traded sulfur. Hear me out: urea isn’t the problem. China raised its nitrogen exports about 47% and the US about 60%. By the end of August urea was back to its January price, IFPRI data shows. Sulfur is the problem. It has more than doubled, to above $1,000 a tonne, and phosphate is up 25–30%. You need sulfur to make phosphate fertilizer. Mosaic has idled two Louisiana plants, and India’s fertilizer subsidy bill could pass 3 trillion rupees, against 1.71 trillion budgeted. Oil found other ways out of the Gulf. Sulfur hasn’t. source: World Visualized

Security Alert: U.S. Mission Saudi Arabia (October 25, 2026) Effective October 23, 2026, the Department of State ordered non-emergency U.S. government employees and U.S. government employee family members to leave Saudi Arabia due to safety risks. Iranian-supported Houthis have engaged in hostilities against Saudi Arabia, including attacks on civilian airports and other critical infrastructure resulting in civilian casualties and severe travel disruptions. The hostilities have the potential to escalate rapidly beyond that immediate area. U.S. government employees working in Saudi Arabia require special authorization from Chief of Mission to use any airport in Saudi Arabia following recent missile and UAV attacks on airports in the Kingdom. King Khalid International Airport (RUH) in Riyadh announced a partial reopening as of October 25 for domestic flights and some international flights operated by national carriers. A limited number of flights normally based at RUH are operating out of Qassim-based Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz International Airport (ELQ). Operations at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah (JED) are operational with some delays and cancellations. Operations at King Fahd International Airport in Dammam (DMM) are operational with some delays and cancellations. U.S. citizens should be aware of potential attacks on airports, airspace closures, flight cancellations, and travel disruptions.  Please take extreme caution if you choose to use airports in Saudi Arabia.  We recommend checking your flight departure status directly with the airline and with the airport.

The Pentagon has spent months building a new agency to covertly disrupt and sabotage foreign technology programs seen as threats to U.S. military superiority, according to a dozen current and former U.S. national security officials who spoke to Politico. The Pentagon denies it with Deputy press secretary Jacob Bliss saying the claims are “simply not true.” The White House did not respond to Politico's request for comment. The Technology Support Office (TSO) was established in April, the officials say. Politico reports it is mentioned in previously unreported Department of War records, including a memo Deputy Secretary of War Steve Feinberg signed April 14 placing it under the Under Secretary of War for Intelligence and Security. Its goal is to “buy time or stop adversaries from developing technologies” that most threaten the U.S. military in a major conflict, one former official said. The sources describe building hacking tools and planning deception operations, such as tricking adversaries into installing faulty components in weapons. Politico reports TSO lacks legal authority to conduct clandestine operations itself and works with military and intelligence officers who do. It was built by merging two classified Pentagon intelligence programs that have run smaller tech sabotage efforts since 2023. Sources say Special Operations Command and Cyber Command objected, fearing budget cuts. While budget details are unclear, one former official estimated classified contracts alone are likely more than $1.5 billion. Source: politico.com/news/2026/10/22…

Do you see what I saw? Because I see a seesaw. Superimposing two images we can find the pivot point using the perpendicular bisector of a chord theorem. The fulcrum is cleary slightly forward of the B pillar, not the rear wheels. This implies a fulcrum near the center-of-gravity. Given the junkyard setting and the visible damage, this is probably a gutted junker with the engine pulled, which would shift the center of gravity back to where the pivot point is shown. The car rests on its front wheels with a hidden fulcrum, and the rear wheels are already off the ground. As the robot tips the front up, the rear goes down. Watch closely and you'll see it lift too far, causing the rear wheels to bounce off the ground, as you see the front drops for a moment before the robot recovers. The robot did not lift a car. It tipped a balanced shell. The video suggests strength the robot does not possess.

So basically, today PHP got two critical bugs that let anyone run code on your server without even logging in, which is bad, and then the details leaked before the patch was even out, which is worse, and it works on WordPress and MediaWiki and Magento and Joomla and Laravel, and Censys says like 1.5 million servers are running a version with no fix, so the NSA was like "take your system offline," and the FBI was like "take your system offline," and CISA and the UK and CERT-EU were all like "take your system offline," and then the Prime Minister of Japan, the actual Prime Minister, posted at 5:55 in the morning telling 48.8 million people to take their system offline, so everyone took their system offline, like the Dutch cybersecurity agency took its own website offline, and the Dutch parliament went offline, and the Port of Rotterdam went offline, and Finland and France and Denmark started pulling government sites, and Wikipedia went down, and Archive.org went down, and Asana and GOG and Something Awful went down, and the University of Vienna's webmail went down for some reason, and that's just PHP. Because GitLab also dropped a CVSS 10.0, which is the highest score they give out, for a bug that's been there since 2014, so that's every self-hosted GitLab for twelve years, and then LiteLLM 1.107.0 got hijacked and shipped a credential stealer and a remote access trojan in every single wheel and the Docker images, including latest, and you didn't even have to import it, just installing it was enough, and it's the second time this year, and then Railway paused every deployment on the entire platform because someone got into the environment variables, so now everyone has to rotate every secret they've ever stored there, and TiDB Cloud said someone was walking around inside with stolen credentials for basically a month and an extortion group says they took 10.6 terabytes, and Zeabur got breached for the second time in two months and is just shutting down, like the whole company, and Node.js patched remote code execution and a TLS bypass, and CISA says Plex is being actively exploited, and someone took over 300 Tor exit relays to steal SSH passwords, and SafePay ransomware has hit over 600 critical infrastructure orgs, and India's biggest bank filed a data loss incident, and Japan has been in an official state of emergency in cyberspace since October 9, which honestly explains the 5:55 AM post. Oh, and eMudhra, a certificate authority that's issued over 60 million certificates, whose entire job is proving websites are who they say they are, was supposed to be using private keys that are random numbers over a hundred digits long, and one of them was 4. Just 4. And the others were like 66 and 237. Anyway, it's Wednesday.

On December 30, 1952, London bus driver Albert Gunter dramatically jumped his Route 78 double-decker bus across a rising gap on Tower Bridge. Realizing the bridge was lifting unexpectedly on a green light, the former WWII tank driver accelerated, clearing the opening with 20 passengers on board.... With 20 terrified passengers on board, the red Routemaster leaped across a three-foot gap as the bridge continued to lift. The front wheels landed safely on the opposite side, though the impact broke the suspension and injured Gunter’s leg. Miraculously, everyone survived with only minor injuries. Albert was later rewarded with a £10 bonus for his bravery — roughly £400 today — and became a London legend. His daring leap remains one of the most extraordinary moments in public transport history. #drthehistories

The image attached here is a fabricated/AI-generated depiction that greatly exaggerates the 1952 event; no real photo of the bus jump exists and the actual gap was only about 3 feet. leadstories.com/hoax-alert/202… en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1952_Towe… bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

EXCLUSIVE: In a joint investigation by @InsiderGeo × @SONARROW_OSINT , we identified a large-scale Russian military loading operation in Baltiysk. Between October 15 and 16, we observed the Russian cargo vessels ASCALON (IMO 9198226), LADY D (IMO 9349289) and ANASTASIIA (IMO 9349291) loading significant quantities of military equipment at the Kaliningrad naval base, including logistics vehicles, infantry vehicles, MRAPs and troop transports. A rotation of other cargo vessels also appears to have taken place in the days before and after, although heavy cloud cover over the period makes this difficult to confirm. One or more large convoys are likely already underway. Their destination(s) remain unknown at this time.
