“Her legs were torn off, she was ripped to pieces.” A Russian drone killed 84-year-old woman Grandma Lora in Kherson as she was walking her goats, The New York Post reports. In a September interview, Lora said: “Everyone is afraid, but everyone still has hope.” Larisa Myronivna Vakulyuk, 84, known as Grandma Lora, died instantly when a Russian FPV drone struck her and her two goats in the Antonivskyi district of Kherson. Journalist Zarina Zabrisky, who had interviewed Vakulyuk a month earlier, described the aftermath: “Her legs were torn off, she was ripped to pieces. In my three and a half years covering this war, I have seen many deaths, but this was one of the hardest to witness.” Volunteer Andrii Petukhov found her remains alongside the dead goats, confirming that she died instantly and that the strike occurred during her morning walk. In her September interview, Vakulyuk said: “Everyone is afraid, but everyone still has hope,” capturing both fear and resilience amid the shelling of Kherson. The attack was one of several that day, which also injured four civilians and damaged homes, schools, and residential buildings across the city. Ukrainian and human rights groups call Kherson a “human safari zone” — an area where Russian drones and artillery deliberately hunt civilians. In July, outrage followed reports that a one-year-old boy was killed by a Russian drone while playing outside, showing how Moscow’s “human safari” now claims victims from infants to the elderly. Nearly 150 civilians were killed during the summer bombardments of Kherson in 2024, and hundreds more were injured. Russia continues to intensify daily drone strikes on populated areas.

So @FLOTUS helped Russia kidnap a bunch of starving Ukrainians?
This is horrific. Residents of occupied Oleshky who wish to escape to free Ukraine will not be allowed to cross the Dnipro River – which is less than 4 km away. They will be taken to occupied Crimea or to the Russian Federation, where they will be subjected to coercive measures.

I guess I'm old-fashioned, but I think it should be a bigger story that the eldest son of the President of the United States is vacationing with corrupt Russian oligarchs.
Wow. Financial Times reports that Trump Jr. went on a Mongolian hunting trip with the Russian businessman who financed his wedding party. The trip was in August, three months after the wedding. ft.com/content/f41fc704-c9e6…

Trump is considering lifting sanctions on the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF)—an entity described by the U.S. as "Putin’s piggy bank"—according to a report by The New York Times. The fund is headed by Kirill Dmitriev, a special envoy for Putin on economic matters. The report states that he has offered to act as an intermediary for deals involving the sale of Russian diesel fuel to American companies. In 2022, the Biden administration imposed sanctions on the fund, viewing it as a key instrument for the Kremlin’s international influence. Now, the Trump administration is considering lifting these sanctions.

Aside from the shocking substance of this story, what's amazing is how it was unearthed by Cole. The short version: The Russians were able to penetrate Jared Kushner's iPhone and extract screenshots and data. Then, a Russian intel official was captured by Dutch intelligence (!) and flipped. The Dutch believed Kushner may have been acting on behalf of Russia, so pursued him as an intel target and were able to get into his phone. They did not find any evidence of Russian collusion, instead they watched him moving hundreds of millions of dollars from slush funds created by Saudi Arabia and the UAE, one of them housed in Israel's central bank. Incredible reporting, and if Democrats have any sense, they will pull on these threads and learn a lot more about this money.
Explosive story many years in the making, now out in Vanity Fair by Matthew Cole (who will be on Breaking Points next week, and publishing soon in @DropSiteNews): Saudi Arabia and the UAE set up multi-billion slush funds for Jared Kushner to use. Iran-Contra 2 here (except with Iran-Contra, at least the US got some hostages released. Not clear what we got out of this one.)

"Putin apparently ordered Trump to end diesel sanctions and thus send him billions of dollars to build more drones and glide bombs to kill more Ukrainian children, and Trump said, “Sir, yes sir!” The Wall Street Journal noted that the same call was where Putin suggested the meeting with Trump and Xi and that a former Russian intelligence officer described it to the paper as a “new Yalta,” three strongmen dividing the planet into spheres of influence. While Democrats and average Americans are furious, a tiny handful of Republicans have timidly objected. Graham’s sister Darline, who now holds his Senate seat, says she doesn’t trust Putin and wouldn’t have waived a thing in the law. Ted Cruz called it a “mistake,” as if Trump had made a math error. Don Bacon said Trump is prolonging the war, although the reality is that he may have just handed Putin a victory this winter. Putin and the Russian media certainly think so. The Australian billionaire Murdochs, through their papers the Wall Street Journal and the New York Post, have objected: the Journal’s editorial board said that Trump had “stuck a shiv” in the back of Graham’s legacy, and the Post warned that a Yalta 2 summit could trigger a full-on Republican revolt that could even end in impeachment. Which raises the most important question in America today: If Murdoch’s papers can speak the truth to the GOP out loud, can call for action, why can’t a single Republican leader in Congress find a similar ounce of spine? Tom Nichols, a lifelong Republican and a professor emeritus at the Naval War College, wrote in The Atlantic this weekend that Trump has conclusively turned America into an ally of the Russian Federation. The Lincoln Project, founded and run by Republicans, is saying the same thing. This should have nothing whatsoever to do with partisan politics. We’re literally watching the plot of The Manchurian Candidate play out on the evening news, except that in Richard Condon’s story the asset gets stopped before the convention, and in ours he’s sitting in the Oval Office and systematically dismantling our country while handing Ukraine (and probably, soon, the Baltic states) to his master, Putin." The GOP wants you to think of Elon Musk as some sort of victim who just wants to give us flying cars, but the truth tells a very different story. He fired the people who were investigating him and his companies through DOGE and now it’s reported by the WSJ that he gave the order to degrade the speed on Ukraine’s Starlink. That deserves investigation and Democrats should absolutely promise that and deliver.

Witkoff called Putin a humanist as he thanked him for Stephen Hubbard’s release. Russian troops seized the elderly American in Izium, and former fellow prisoners reported that he had been beaten, tortured with electric shocks, burned and attacked by dogs. This is a punitive system created and endorsed by Putin, who is himself a product of that system. Let us recall some examples of the “humanism” displayed by Putin and the system he created. Wars. Chechnya, Georgia, Syria, Ukraine—a succession of military campaigns involving mass civilian casualties. In Novye Aldi in Chechnya, Russian forces executed at least 60 people. In Georgia, the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) established Russia’s responsibility for killings, torture and the burning of homes. In Syria, human rights organisations documented unlawful strikes by Russian and Syrian forces on hospitals, schools and markets. His personal decision to invade Ukraine. On 24 February 2022, Putin himself announced the start of the full-scale war. As early as 2014, he publicly spoke of using civilians to shield Russian troops: standing “behind them, not in front, but behind” and challenging Ukrainian soldiers to “try shooting at women and children.” Killings of civilians and the destruction of shelters and hospitals. Bucha, with its extrajudicial executions; the Mariupol Drama Theatre, marked with the word “CHILDREN”; and the missile strike on Okhmatdyt Children’s Hospital are specific instances of violence committed by the army Putin sent into Ukraine. They have been documented by the UN and international human rights organisations. The deportation of children. The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for Putin over his suspected personal responsibility for the unlawful deportation and transfer of Ukrainian children. The UN Commission of Inquiry classified these practices as crimes against humanity. Torture and the hunting of human beings. The UN Commission of Inquiry found that the Russian authorities’ systematic use of torture constituted a crime against humanity. It reached the same conclusion regarding systematic drone attacks on civilians in the Kherson region. Depriving millions of the basic necessities of life. Strikes on energy infrastructure left Ukrainians without electricity, heating and water, and threatened the operation of hospitals. In connection with this campaign, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Shoigu and Gerasimov, including for suspected attacks on civilian objects. MH17 and the concealment of responsibility. All 298 people aboard the passenger aircraft were killed when it was shot down. The ECtHR established Russia’s responsibility for the disaster and for violations of the rights of the victims’ relatives. Poisonings abroad. A British inquiry found that Putin had probably approved Litvinenko’s murder with polonium. Another inquiry concluded that he had authorised the assassination attempt on Skripal. Novichok left behind by the perpetrators killed a member of the public—Dawn Sturgess. The persecution of Navalny. After being poisoned with Novichok, the opposition politician was imprisoned; he died in a penal colony. In 2026, five European countries reported detecting epibatidine in samples taken from him and held the Russian state responsible for his poisoning. Impunity for those who ordered political killings. Nemtsov was shot dead near the Kremlin. Politkovskaya was murdered on Putin’s birthday after investigating crimes in Chechnya. Personal support for a state assassin. A German court established that Krasikov had killed Khangoshvili in Berlin on orders from Russian state agencies. Following a prisoner exchange, Putin personally met the convicted murderer at the airport and embraced him. “Kursk”: 118 dead and “It sank.” In the first days of the disaster, Putin remained on holiday while Moscow delayed accepting foreign assistance. All 118 sailors died. Later, when Larry King asked what had happened to the submarine, Putin replied: “It sank.” His initial response to a question about the deaths of an entire crew took just two words. “Nord-Ost” and Beslan: contempt for hostages’ lives. In the Nord-Ost case, the ECtHR found that the rescue operation following the use of gas had been inadequately organised. In Beslan, the authorities failed to take appropriate measures despite having information about the threat of an attack. During the operation, security forces used tank guns, grenade launchers and flamethrowers—the court found that this had contributed to the hostages’ deaths. Children as hostages to political revenge. In retaliation for the US Magnitsky Act, Putin signed a law banning US citizens from adopting Russian children. Even nearly completed adoptions were halted, including those involving children with serious illnesses. The ECtHR found the ban discriminatory and disproportionate. The Kremlin demonstrated its power to Washington at the expense of children who could have found families. The 1999 apartment bombings: questions the Kremlin cannot brush aside. Hundreds dead, another war in Chechnya and the rapid consolidation of Putin’s power. Litvinenko, Felshtinsky and Satter accused the FSB of organising the bombings. In Ryazan, the FSB later claimed that a device initially regarded as a bomb in an apartment building was part of a “training exercise with sugar.” Torture, coerced confessions and years of imprisonment—this is how Putin’s government punishes disobedience. Ukrainians, Crimean Tatars and Russian opposition figures have received prison sentences of 10, 20 and 25 years in politically motivated cases. By calling Putin a humanist, Witkoff grants moral absolution to a ruler who starts wars, presides over a state that practises systematic torture, and personally welcomes a convicted murderer.
Steve Witkoff to Putin: You talk so much about my president, President Trump, being a humanitarian. You are a humanitarian also, sir, and I salute that, I commend you, and I thank you again.
