Wow Coalburn 1 really is a big battery! It swamps all the other grid-scale batteries on my energy map. It's currently importing some 473 MW out of a maximum 500 MW, that's nearly half the output level of a massive new wind farm like Dogger Bank A.
Great Britain: Q3 2026 added 917 MW / 1,844 MWh of batteries, a record quarter that took the fleet to 8.5 GW / 14.4 GWh. Coalburn 1 came online at 500 MW, now the largest site in GB. Revenues held up too, with the ME BESS GB index up 23% as capacity grew 12%.

BREAKING: US annual interest expense is up to a record 18.5% of federal government revenue. This is officially above the previous record of 18.4% set in 1991. This percentage has more than QUADRUPLED over the last 4 years as interest expenditures on public debt skyrocketed. US annual interest expense now stands at a record $1.25 trillion, more than 4x the level seen in 1991. Meanwhile, the 30Y Treasury yield is trading at ~5.21%, just 13 basis points from its highest level since 2007. By comparison, the 30-year yield was oscillating at ~8.00% in 1991, underscoring how much the US debt burden has grown since then. The US debt crisis is in uncharted territory.

Global bond markets have caught on fire. The most notable spike in long-term yields is happening for the US and France, but at this point the rise in long-term yields is truly a global phenomenon. Reckless fiscal policy is catching up with governments... robinjbrooks.substack.com/p/…

Telemundo’s final number is 23.2 million viewers. Combined with Fox’s 21.8 million, Sunday’s Mexico–England match averaged 45.0 million viewers in the U.S. — the most-watched soccer telecast ever in the United States. It’s the most-watched non-NFL sports telecast in decades.
Sunday’s Mexico–England match averaged 21.742 million viewers on Fox — the most-watched non-USMNT WC telecast in English-Lang history. That’s a total of 44.9M when combined with Telemundo’s prelim — which will be more with final numbers. Good chance this outpaces USA-Belgium.

⚽️ England 3 - 2 Mexico 😴 At 2am, it turns out even England fans need their sleep. 📈 Demand rose by 400 MW at half-time as supporters stayed up for the drama. 🇳🇴 @Statnett, shall we compare both the electricity data and the scoreline after Saturday? 😉

How big would the 'Burnham bounce' need to be for Labour to hold Makerfield? Taking local elections and national swing as decent benchmarks, Andy Burnham's personal brand would need to be worth something close to 10-points or higher. That's a pretty tall order

The turnaround is staggering. After an operational crunch forced France to import power in 2022, Paris smashed records last year with a massive 92.3 TWh net export balance. French nuclear electrons are now the primary stabilizing force for the entire European grid.

Street trees and urban greenery can keep our cities cool, even as the climate changes But we need to tackle the regulations that stop councils from planting more of them 👇
Trees are cool(ing). 🧊If we want people to get outside to enjoy their local communities, that will increasingly mean thinking about how to make our streets cooler. ☀️ As we all endure yet another heatwave, this Woodland Trust study in Cardiff shows the vital role streets trees can play when the weather hots up👇 woodlandtrust.org.uk/protect… 🌳Now would be a great time for @DefraGovUK + @transportgovuk to embrace @AphraBrandreth's amendment idea to liberalise the Highways Act 1980 which currently makes it much harder than it needs to be to plant trees along our streets.

Amidst all the gloom, the good news story for the UK is that productivity growth looks to be improving (if utilising the payroll measure of jobs). But more importantly, on any measure, the UK's ICT sector is booming and has been for a long time. Data on this morning show this once again... (1/2)

Well the last 4 days have be the +worst+ training possible for Sunday's Hackney Half marathon. I need some encouragement - and it's for an amazing cause, the Literacy Pirates charity that helps disadvantaged children to read Please do click below.
🫠I'm unfit, unready, and there's a fresh political crisis at hand. And that's just one excuse of many as to why I'm ill prepared for the half marathon next Sunday. So please donate to temper the pain. The Literacy Pirates are a brilliant charity. justgiving.com/fundraising/b…
