The bug is like a joke. On Alpine Linux, type 257 to 1024 characters of anything and you get root. 💀

The modern design principles would not be able to design a scientific calculator UI. It would be like a dumbass 6 button gadget with a touch screen wizard. There would be debates on Twitter whether numerical input should be up/down or left/right scrollers. Most of the criticism would be about some tiny 1px misalignment and how that's bad design. There would be concept showcases and improvements like adding tweening animations, one comment would say "Oh I love that bounce! ✨". The general concept of a shift button would be entirely alien, let alone two of them. LSK or Line Select Keys (the blank top row buttons) would be considered unintuitive because it has no labels. The new Calc Pro Ultra Max would tout itself as the professional choice, with a grand total of 8 buttons.

Well that's cursed. And yes, the PNG in the thread really does contains source code. And no, I haven't built it; OP's build scripts are for NixOS, and I'm too lazy to make my own.
is your window manager too rectilinear? do you wish it had more curves? are you tired of the same old euclidean metric, day in and day out? do i have the tool for you! introducing, Horosphere WM: the first wayland compositor to use hyperbolic geometry to organize your workspace

welp, x86css is no longer a chrome-only demo as of today, ladybird became the second browser to implement enough css to be able to run my css-only x86 emulator!! i guess it is a real browser now!

Ooh! As a DOS enjoyer, that had better go on my list of cool projects to try out.
Somebody called ages2001 has created a USB driver stack for DOS, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, etc. This is a big deal because previously, Windows 98 was the first Windows to work with USB. Retro computing enthusiasts couldn't use earlier versions without needing to do really janky things to get their files across. github.com/ages2001/WINUSB/

Left: the humble browser I built for SerenityOS in 2019 Right: SerenityOS running inside an x86 VM (wasm) hosted by that same browser, now all grown-up as @ladybirdbrowser 🤓

Linux on the M6 Mac Mini, Day 5 - success! Omarchy is installed on the Mac Mini's hard drive. It boots, it runs. Still bringing up accessories, including Ethernet and GPU, so my work's not done, but 5 days from the macOS About screen to the Omarchy About screen isn't bad!

Heartcolor has cyan-blue dye, for rich, deep skies and water. No, it's not for sale, you have to hire me as your colorist to use it.

SerenityOS sings on PowerPC! 🎶 Got the SerenityOS PowerPC port to boot all the way to the desktop on a real Pegasos II G3! No emulation, just real hardware. Still a lot to do, but it's a pretty cool milestone! And yes, this was made possible thanks to AI. 🚀

Good grief man.
A few years ago I was at a trivia night run by the Australian Computer Society (ACS). They flashed up this slide. "What is this logo?" Later they read out the answers. The MC said "not a single team got this one right. The correct answer is MS-DOS." I didn't renew.

Adwaitaslop claims another victim. 😥️ This is one I actually keep around. I will not be upgrading.
Another day another disappointment ... Some time ago I wrote about RSS on FreeBSD: vermaden.wordpress.com/2025/… Liferea was really nice small tool for the job ... was. Look how it looks now.

Show casing this a bit more! The new Windows 11 compatible UCX stack. It’s a USB3 stack that even is compatible with the USB4 routers and companion drivers. Going to PR this to the main @reactos repo soon! But I’ve been using this on my win11 install since it’s a little more stable than window’s normal stack.

I usually don't comment on politicians' posts. Making an exception for a timeline. Dates and quotes only. 2022: - @KenPaxtonTX tells the Supreme Court "The University of Texas was wrong" to use race in admissions - @tedcruz leads a brief signed by @JohnCornyn and 80 other Republicans: race-conscious admissions "inflict a heavy toll on Asian-American students" 2023: - @GregAbbott_TX signs a ban on DEI offices at state universities - The Supreme Court rules their way. UT stops considering race Since then: - Texas law auto-admits the top of every high school class by rank, as it has since 1997; this year, the cutoff is the top 5% - 90% of freshmen must be Texans by law - 4% of undergrads are international per @UTAustin's 2025-26 Common Data Set 9/13/2026: - @bofrench, Republican nominee for Railroad Commissioner, posts a photo of South Asian students at UT and calls it "the problem" - As of writing this post, two students in the photo have spoken to reporters. Both are US citizens 9/14/2026: - Asked about it on the Mark Davis Show, French says letting UT administrators "select their preferred groups of people" is racism - His fix - "prioritize Americans" Race-blind admissions were requested and delivered. Changing who is in that photo would require bringing back affirmative action, which the Cruz-Cornyn brief called "unconstitutional on its face" and French even said letting UT administrators "select their preferred groups of people" is racism Sources: - Paxton brief ("The University of Texas was wrong"): texastribune.org/2022/10/31/… - Cruz-Cornyn brief, filed 5/9/2022, both quotes and signer list: supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/2… - SB 17, signed June 2023: compliance.utexas.edu/sb17 - Top 5% rule: texastribune.org/2024/09/16/… - 4% international undergrads, UT Common Data Set 2025-26: utexas.box.com/s/z5p8zzbr6yk… - The students in the photo: texastribune.org/2026/09/14/… - Mark Davis Show quotes: kut.org/politics/2026-09-15/… - "Prioritize Americans": kxan.com/news/texas-politics… Thanks to @vedantnair__ for inspiring me to post
I heard UT graduation this year looked like this. I didn’t believe it. The problem is now obviously far worse than anyone imagined.

I have long hypothesised that showing off advances in graphics is what inspired early-2000s ultra-glossy 3D UI, and shovelware following suit is what killed the trend. I wonder how slop aversion will change modern UI tastes?
UI that looks like this is such a turn-off for me. There's a boundary between AI-assisted coding and AI slop, and this is a sign of the latter.

Here at Galadriel, we are building a different kind of AI. Instead of a Dark Lord, it will be a queen. Not dark but beautiful and terrible as the dawn! Tempestuous as the sea, and stronger than the foundations of the earth! All shall love it and despair!

Those were called throbbers and were such a cultural institution that pretty much every mid '90s web browser had one. IBM WebExplorer on OS/2 did colored cubes racing towards you across infinite neon gridlines.
I was messing around in Solaris, when I saw this sick loading indicator in the corner. Totally unnecessary, but pretty cool.
