🇺🇸 A MESSAGE FROM A 63-YEAR-OLD SOUTH PHILLY STREET HUSTLER TO THE NEXT GENERATION. I’m 63 years old. Never went to college. Started hustling to make my own money on the streets of South Philly when I was just 7 years old. I’ve worked practically two jobs my entire adult life. Married twice. Divorced twice. And let me give myself a round of applause 👏👏 because I walked away from both marriages with exactly what I brought into them. Never asked for anything beyond minimal child support. I’ve maintained a home, raised my children, paid my bills and supported myself. No welfare. No free childcare. No free groceries. No government handouts. Was it easy? HELL NO. I lived paycheck to paycheck. Sometimes we went without. Sometimes I wondered how I was going to make it to Friday. But I figured it out. I planned for my children. I understood that having a baby meant diapers, food, childcare and responsibilities that didn’t disappear because money was tight. So here’s my question to the younger generations: When did personal responsibility become somebody else’s financial obligation? You choose college? Understand the cost before signing the loan. You decide to have children? Plan for the responsibility of raising them. You want a better lifestyle? Build the skills, make the sacrifices and put in the work. And before somebody twists my words, I’m not talking about people who genuinely need help. I’m talking about the idea that government can promise everybody everything without somebody eventually paying the bill. I hear politicians promising free this, subsidized that and affordable everything. WHERE’S THE MONEY COMING FROM? WHO’S PAYING? AND WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE BILL COMES DUE? I didn’t have an easy life. I worked for the life I have. I don’t expect younger Americans to suffer simply because I struggled. I want them to succeed. But I also want them to understand something: Opportunity is not the same thing as entitlement. And a political promise is not a financial plan. Before you vote for anybody promising to make your life easier, ask how they’re going to deliver it and who’s going to pay for it. Because there’s one lesson this little South Philly street hustler learned a long time ago: Nobody can promise you a shortcut to a successful life.
