Nice write-up on Created by Humans in the Unicorner: read.unicorner.news/p/create…
The conflict between AI and creators isn't fundamentally a technology problem, instead it's a rights and licensing problem.
When I started Scribd, we learned that copyright disputes don't disappear through enforcement alone. The real solution is creating legitimate, scalable ways to obtain permission.
Today, AI rights are fragmented across authors, publishers, and agents. AI developers need access, while creators deserve control and compensation.
That's why we're building Created by Humans: a licensing layer for AI rights.
I discussed the challenge with Stephanie Kaloi at @FastCompany.

.@tripadler's story is my favorite persistence story that most have never heard. He went from rocket ship growth, to hitting a wall and half the team quitting in 6 months. But he kept at it for years and eventually grew @Scribd to over $300M of revenue.

This founder spent nearly two decades building Scribd. then left to start over.
Why? AI companies started training on books without permission. He'd already survived that fight once during the piracy era.
So he built @CreatedByHumans to fix it.

Cool! Hopefully there will be a session on the importance of ensuring that use of personal data & creative works for training AI must proceed exclusively on the basis of freely granted consent (not non-negotiated, non-negotiable TOS). Nicely covered by @tripadler here—
“If the US abandons its own standards, we don’t ‘catch up’ to China; we simply validate a global race to the bottom in which American creative capital becomes free raw material for anyone to scrape.”

I just published an opinion piece in The Hill titled ‘In the fight over AI, copyright is America’s competitive weapon’

Anthropic and authors announced the details of their copyright lawsuit settlement, and there are mixed feelings on both sides. This is a great win for the lawyers, but there are other ways to solve this than through litigation.
Created by Humans is building the off-ramp from the AI copyright cold war. We’re offering a practical, scalable marketplace for licensing that meets the needs of rights holders and AI companies, that solves this in a long-term, sustainable way that benefits everyone.
Let’s work together in a way that protects human creativity while advancing American AI leadership. Reach out if you want to get involved!

We’ve made it easier than ever to create content, but are we making it harder to create original ideas?
@tripadler (Co-founder and CEO, @createdbyhumans) shares why the explosion of AI-generated output risks sidelining human creativity and why the future of books, music, and art still depends on humans getting paid to create.
Watch the full @FoundersInArms episode to hear how he’s building a licensing marketplace to protect and expand the creative economy.
As the legal battle plays out between creators and AI companies, @createdbyhumans is advocating for a new vision for how copyright and AI fit together. If we get this right, it will be a win for AI and a win for the American creative industry. Read our blueprint and let us know what you think!
