I think the appeal with TNG was that it was like a simulation of a world where, if you made compelling arguments, people were swayed and it changed the course of the episode.
The characters are all competent and fair-minded, and their universe is one that rewards this.

When I wrote yesterday that much more would be written about him, I didn’t know how I would write it—for how could one possibly explain?
Scenes like these were deeply influential and foundational to my development as a human being.
Wrong. The US murdered those chinese. Mao tried to buy food during the worst famine in history. US Navy enforced an embargo on China for several years.
The credit for those deaths goes to the West, as usual. That is a crime against humanity, if you don't know.

Thank you, people everywhere are finally recognizing that Russia-Ukraine is a Zionist war with a main motivation being to make Russia too tied-up to help their close allies Iran and Assad in Syria. There were other factors, but this one was crucial.

Actually its 8 million diaspora Jews desperately trying to wrangle 7 million Israeli Jews while they sic the economies of 981 million NATO citizens against 140 million Russians to punish them for protecting 90 million Iranians, who are in turn punished for resisting the Jews.
So, basically, 500 million Europeans expect 300 million Americans to protect them from 120 million Russians who can’t even defeat 40 million Ukrainians while those 500 million Europeans don’t even realize they are being conquered by 2 billion Muslims who claim they are being persecuted by 8 million Israelis. Is that about right?

Sacha Baron Cohen personally invested $3 million of his own money into the new Ali G film.
The film is rumored to have cost over $160 million to make, with 54 credited producers, including 13 executive producers.
It has since been pulled from theatres and total box office gross to date is around $3 million.
It is on track to be the biggest box-office flop in history.

Then he gave an award to #Brit #intelligence #Bellingcat for an anti-#Syria fraudumentary.

While I enjoy Chinese people embarrassing Germans on a daily basis, I 100% believe these new culture wars on here are hasbara distraction psyops. Ask yourself why the meeting between westerners and Chinese folks on Rednote last year was such a different experience

something to understand about Star Trek TNG is the world in the 90s *was very much not like the Enterprise*.
that was the whole point. TNG was aspirational. it represented the best of us & what we could be. picard says this to Q directly in a bit of a self-reflexive fourth wall break.
Rewatching this final scene of Star Trek: The Next Generation today hurts.
The world in which this show existed feels long gone.
Every week we watched on “network TV” a strong and virtuous male leader be celebrated.
We grappled with real philosophical questions without cynicism. We laughed without being “irony poisoned.”
We celebrated men and women working together in complementary collaboration—not in zero-sum competition.
That world feels gone, but it doesn’t have to be.
Most of us still hold these values.
We can tell stories like this again.

Birds of a feather flock together.
The Anglo-American empire has been far and away the most exploitative and mass-murderous western empire since and including imperial Rome.
Ruthless. Merciless.
And now, four centuries down the road, it has arrived at the kakistocracy stage.

All at Huddersfield Town are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of lifelong supporter Sir Patrick Stewart. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this sad time.
A titan of his craft and a legend and hero to millions worldwide, his legacy will live on. Fiercely proud of his Yorkshire roots, Sir Patrick was a Terrier in every sense, and we’re proud to have counted him as one of our own.
Once a Terrier, always a Terrier 💙

Jean-Luc Picard was a character who Meant Something.
Both in the amount of tragedy he endured ...
-Was stabbed in the heart in his youth, surviving with an artificial one
-Successfully reversed his assimilation by the Borg in what seemed like the most helpless of situations (though still forced to endure whispers of the hivemind because of irrevocably altered DNA).
-Had his consciousness abducted to live an entire second life as Kamin -- first defiantly, then begrudgingly, then wholeheartedly -- on the dying planet Kataan before being returned, just as abruptly, to resume his life as a Starfleet captain
-Was captured and tortured, both physically and psychologically, by the Cardassians, only to be rescued at his most broken point
-Flatlined on the operating table after being shot in his artificial heart, requiring Q to save him through a temporal intervention that forced him to confront his past regrets and ultimately reinvigorated his will to live
-Was absorbed by, then escaped from the Nexus, where he was seduced by a manifestation of the life he most deeply desired but could never have
-Realized far too late the importance of family and grieved for his missed opportunities
... And in the way he carried himself, with a poise and intensity that left no doubt whose ship it was. He *commanded* in a way that hasn't been depicted on screen before or since, and his unwavering competence and dutiful resolve made him one of my earliest role models.
Patrick Stewart wasn't Jean-Luc Picard, of course, but he's the only actor who could have made Picard what he was. And that makes me eternally grateful to him.

My best friend asked me why I like Star Trek more than Star Wars, and it was always because of scenes like this. Trek is like a constant thought experiment of what humanity could be when pushed to its limits. I enjoy both, but Trek hits so much harder on a personal level for me.
