My TEDx talk has, at long last, been posted to YouTube: youtu.be/KrugLxugrUg
I've received end-of-the-semester compliments from a number of students but given what I've learned about politeness theory this semester, I am a little more skeptical of the authenticity. After all, I do have power to assign their grade...
Oh, the ironies of life. I got this book from Interliberary Loan early last summer only to receive a copy from a retiring colleague today.
Truman’s email has been down since Friday and who knows when it will be back. If you emailed me there recently, that’s what happened. My DMs here could be used as an alternative way to get in touch, in a personal and private setting.

Rewatched The Force Awakens this evening. Seems now like a very uneven film (which it probably was in 2015, too, but it is more clearly uneven now). I can somewhat make out a better version and a better sequel trilogy. Oh, what might have been…
Do I enjoy the music to _The Force Awakens_ more than the music to _The Last Jedi_ because it’s objectively better music or because I think better of the former film with respect to the latter? The world may never know the true answer.
I picked up a copy of The Grammarian’s Desk (a book about Klingon) and spy the sentence which translates to “It is true than he wants to go.” I immediately think what is the semantic representation of that sentence. LING 433 has ruined me.
It was a bare noun kind of day: semantics of bare nouns in the morning, noun incorporation in the afternoon. But, over dinner, I explained verb-initial and verb-final word order. (The last had nothing to do with bare nouns.)
Another day, another semester, another bit of linguistics swag to wear while teaching Intro to Linguistics.
