Today marks 100 days since my brilliant former student Raouf Farrah was arrested in Algeria.
That is 100 days too long!

So let me get this straight: The Ontario government is okay with spending an average of $2.8 Billion/year on highways...but isn't okay with spending an average of just $5 Million/year on life-saving healthcare coverage for uninsured people?
Where is the humanity?

When times are tough — I believe your government should be working for you.
That's why we pushed the Liberal govt and delivered on real changes.
And with today's budget, we secured measures that will help millions of Canadians.
I promise — this is just the first step.

Congrats to mayor-elect @_MarkSutcliffe. You ran a great campaign @cmckenney. I hope we haven't seen the last of you in politics. All the best to all the winners tonight and to those brave enough to put their name on the ballot.

A few thoughts going into the election. Settle in, this is a long thread:
The Ottawa Citizen in one breath dismisses my candidacy, reasoning that our austerity message didn't catch on in this government town. In another breath it warns of a coming recession. 1/13

Replying to @BarrhavenDarrel @Bob_Chiarelli
Ummmm, that’s his point. He is providing the balance the news story should have.

The resignation of Liz Truss is a reminder of the disaster Conservative governments are for working people.
And a stark reminder that they will always put rich CEOs ahead of you and your family.

The comments attributed to @_MarkSutcliffe around the defunding of popular attractions such as the Ottawa Tulip Festival, Franco Ontarien Festival and the Pride Parade are further proof he is not up to the job of being mayor - the City's chief ambassador. 1/7

Something stinks about the announced hiring of the new Police Chief. The fact that it’s @_MarkSutcliffe's election co-chair @Eli_ElChantiry doing the hiring & it’s being pushed through with unseemly haste on a Friday just days before the election makes it smell very bad. 1/3

As mayor, I will slow down the latest Lansdowne redevelopment proposal to allow for proper public consultation. 1/7

I have concerns with the financial model that calls on the City to take on more than $300 million in debt with the promise that future property taxes on the planned three residential towers would eventually make the overall redevelopment project revenue neutral for the City. 2/7

Don’t get me wrong, I support the need for a renovated sports stadium and events centre (arena) and I believe Lansdowne can be both a community magnet and economic win for the partners (Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group) and the taxpayers of the City of Ottawa. 3/7

Lansdowne is part of the fabric of our city. But it has to be the right deal for taxpayers. While nothing is carved in stone, to get my buy-in on any aspect of the redevelopment proposal it would have to meet green building standards. 4/7

We must do this right and do it better. On the housing proposal, if the City is going to be a partner in the deal, I will insist on some important people-centred amenities be included. 5/7
